Took my 12' Sharpes bamboo rod to a cold winter river today. Started out with a midspey but changed to a Barrio switch line and a 12' Type VI sink tip because the shorter Barrio head is a little easier to cast with the 12' rod. It was so cold that my fly froze solid during lunch.

In a yeti and fishpond world I did just fine with a cup of hot soup from my Dad's old Stanley thermos carried to the river in a Frost River waxed canvas knapsack. Old things are good things!

….and Rye Crisps! There are some memories!

My mom loved those things. I didn’t much care for them as a kid…kinda like smearing butter and jam on piece of cement board in my opinion but I can sure picture them on mom’s german lunch tray at the kitchen table

thanks for that 🤔🙂

I indulge my swedish roots. :)

Rye crisps are best as the foundation for an open faced swedish smorgas. Smoked salmon or smoked trout, thin slices of cucumber, sliced red or green peppers...They also go well with soup.

I might have to give them a try, Dave.

I now like a bunch of foods I hated as a kid…broccoli…stuffed peppers…asparagus…etc..

but never ever will try liver or tongue, again 🤢🤢🤢🤢.

I love me some good kipper snacks tho…they’re a perfect river snack. Is that cream cheese under the cucumber on the packaging? Might need something to anchor the kippers and cukes if I’m gonna give it a go 🤔

You should give lengua tacos, beef tongue, a try sometime from a taco truck. I don’t like liver at all or tongue any other way but I really enjoy a lengua taco from a taco truck.

With a German mom and relatives, those rye crisps were ever-present. I loved to eat them dry -- no amendments necessary.

Am I weird?

And then there is zwieback. Carried it, and rye crisp, on many week-long backpacking trips when younger...

Apparently, I was given Zwieback when I was teething. Or so I've been told...
