Probably have to dump a few.
Their big dollar guys are getting long in the tooth, so an outright release of somebody will be the likely path.
Once McCaffrey went down, so did Purdy's numbers. In his past 18 starts, his record is 9-9 and his quarterback rating is just 91. Jimmy Garoppolo never had a stretch that poor while he was on the 49ers.

When the 9ers start releasing big contract aging veterans like Deebo, the dead cap penalties will erode their salary cap number fast. They need Purdy to intervene for a team friendly deal.

Meanwhile, Brock Purdy's agent is sending out smoke signals that the 9ers will have to award him a mega contract this off season. Yikes!

"If the 49ers pay the going rate for a franchise quarterback next year, they're topping the deal Dak Prescott just inked with the Cowboys, which is north of $60 million per season," Barnwell wrote. "I suggested over the summer a Purdy deal would come in at five years and $325 million, or $65 million per year. That's still the number he and his agents are likely targeting."

As was the case in Dallas, the debate will intensify over whether Purdy "deserves" that kind of money and whether he is, in fact, "elite."
I think Purdy is solidly a starting NFL qb. He isn't worth even close to that number though.

Purdy needs to perform without CMC on a regular basis...
CMC makes any QB look good, even as an oft injured, tail end of career guy with tons of miles on him...like he is now.
Geno Smith would be on fire weekly with CMC, as would a number of upper mid tier QB's...
So is Purdy worth it ?
Sounds like SF is willing to do a multi year deal before next season.
Kirk Cousins smiles...
;)

If alligator arms Murray got paid in Arizona, then Purdy will too no doubt. These huge guaranteed money QB contracts necessitate excellent drafting & coaching to keep the team competitive.

I'd like to see the Niners sign Purdy to a mid-50s deal. That's inline with a top 10 QB. He was a MVP candidate last year even if he did slip a little this year. That's to be expected when missing your top WR, RB and LT. He is 4-1 in the playoffs. He might not be Allen or Maholmes(crazy those guys are at mid-40s!) but hes better than Dax and that tier.

dang, 55-60 million a year seems a bit much for a decent, but not great QB....

Hey, speaking of overpaid 9ers, lots of guys have matched Deebo's output this year....

Me too
A long term deal
Not a lot up front
Big cap hit in year 3 or 4 when he gets dumped.
😁

Seeing a bunch of QBs that can throw really hard tonight but zero accuracy or touch. Very few actually catchable balls. I'll take the ability to quickly go through your reads over "arm talent" every day of the week. Purdy is good at getting through his reads, feeling the pocket, and has a quick first step to avoid the rush. No, he isn't a guy who can put a bad team on his back, but very very few QBs in the history of the game are/were. Tua, Herbert, Lawrence, Love, Hurts all have their warts and are mid-50s.

They have known this payday was coming and structured contacts accordingly. They will roll over a bunch of cap space and most of the high price vets won't have a lot of dead money in the future. Deebo is a good example. They will have about 10 mill on the books if they release him after this season. I expect that or maybe he restructures for a reasonable price. Probably gets released.

Who knows, maybe Brady comes out of retirement next year... :p :ROFLMAO:

couple of all around ugly games to watch.

Caleb Williams is getting killed back behind that sieve of an O line....

Raiders with the turnover trifecta
Pick, fumble, safety...

Switching between the games, all the talk by all the announcers is just bashing the teams, players, coaches, and management. We all know when teams are only winning a couple games a season, there are issues. Why drone on about by drilling it in over and over?

Maybe talk about what the teams can build around. Discuss some of the good plays that are occurring. There are at least 44 players on the field. Surely there are some good things happening...

I'd be OK if the Hawks brought in Darnold to battle with Geno
Won't matter if they don't address our urgent needs at both guard spots and center. All their interior 2023 & 2024 lineman drafts like Haynes and Bradford are not good. I've seen Bradford completely whiff multiple times PER game this year. Like, how are you 6'5" and not even get a hand on a guy?
They brought in a vet like Tomlinson and he's been mid at best. They have to spend some $$ on the line or it won't matter.

Oh I know... I just have already beat that topic to death. Hawks have had bad to mid O-lines since they got rid of Unger. We could have Mahomes or Burrow and wouldn't get much better results. Lamar could run away and Allen could do Josh Allen things to maybe survive a bit better... but otherwise, ceiling isn't very high with the way the line plays now. That Cardinals game is looking like an exception, not the new norm.

Exactly why I watch games with the sound turned off. Back before TV, announcers had to describe the action on the field to give a perspective of what is going on. But with the advent of TV we could see what was going on at the same time as the announcer so having what I saw 10 seconds ago described to me just seems redundant. Add to that the broadcasting mantra that dead air time is the devil and every second must be filled by useless drivel and you get what we have today. Verbal diarrhea by a bunch of ex jocks that have no formal broadcasting training at all. There are a few that are really good but they are in the minority, most are freakin' awful. I heard Tom Brady this week for the first time and didn't realize how bad he is. He should have stuck with Gisele and lived happily ever after.

Since there are no standards for broadcasting quality the bar is set really low and even at that many broadcasters still trip over it.

Now that we all know the nuances of zone vs man coverage, the number of likely blitzers, and when the offense cannot have all eleven of their players moving towards the goal line, announcers do seem a bit redundant. Although I often have games on when I'm doing something else and only turn around when the announcers get excited about a big play.

I also think I would rather hear an ex jock talk about a game instead of seamstress or shoe salesman.

The best are the best because they are few in number. If it was easy to be best the seamstress would do it. Their pool of announcers is also limited to guys that speak english somewhat legibly and not in the vernacular of the hood. You feel me bro?
