Can anyone stop the Bills offense??? Looks like someone will have to hang fiddy+ on them to win, and that seems unlikely - best team in footzball right now.

Maybe the Geno haters will see a bit now that they didn't see before. Notice how Sam Howell just gets gobbled up with dumb sacks over and over? Geno is a magician in the pocket and uses his footwork to extend plays. Receivers were not getting open, so neither QB could just make a quick release. Howell just doesn't have the footwork to be able to operate when the o-line is collapsing.The Sam Howell era is decidedly uninspiring right now...
Lots of "what ifs," but I think it would've been a closer game if Geno was there to make the late game magic happen. He's literally the best in the NFL at the late game come back. Offense and defense both shit the bed in the first half, but defense gave them multiple chances in the second half that Howell couldn't capitalize on.

I always appreciate your analysis @Evan B I tend to run a bit less optimistic so it's good to have balance. My hot read was that the 'hawks were man-handled. The Packers were playing at a whole different level everywhere on the field on both sides of the ball. I saw would-be tacklers give up in pursuit before even hitting 'game speed', corners ('riq Woolen) get torched over the top again and again, D line leaving holes that I could gain yards through. I'm thinking the hawks have a lot of work to do before they're a real playoff contender
On the positive side, this is a rebuild year. New head coach and staff, there are some good things happening. And I agree that Geno isn't the problem, he's not elite but he can carry the team another season or 2 while they build in other areas and look for or develop another QB.
Finally, on the optimistic side... it ain't over until it's over, this is the NFL, anything can happen and it usually does.

This is a perfectly reasonable take. I mean, overall, the team has exceeded my expectations this year. They've shown flashes of very good play. It's a brand new coaching staff, most of which are first timers in their position. The fact that we're a fringe playoff team is impressive.
Did they get outplayed yesterday? 110% I didn't expect them to win even going in to the game. I just thought they'd have more fight.
And about Geno, totally agree. I think there are parts of his game that are elite: Pocket presence, accuracy, 2 minute drill, and a few others. His main issue is forcing red zone throws. Not sure why everything he's good at seems to fall apart when he's throwing to the red zone, but it's certainly a problem. Either way, he's better overall than starting QBs on a LOT of other teams. I also think a lot of "better" QBs wouldn't be doing much better behind this line.
I think it has to do with everything being more confined in the red zone. There is just a lot less space so when you try and force things mistakes get magnified. He got lucky that the first one he forced on that drive wasn’t a pick.

The D seemed to find itself a bit in the second half, but got punched in the mouth out of the gate.
Something either wasn't right scheme wise at the start and got fixed, or they just weren't ready to go.

One thing I really like about the new coaching team is that they will make adjustments - both game plan, or personnel/roster. Pete was stubborn and would double down on things, which is something I was always irritated by with him. Something not working? Just keep doing it until it works! That was Peteball in a nutshell.
We've seen a few games this year where the first half was a mess, and they came out a new team in Q3. That's one of the more promising things I've seen that I think will really be a huge thing in the coming seasons.
After 80 yds in the first quarter, Jacobs got 56 the rest of the way I think. Most of those 80 were on the first 2 drives, and most of that was the first drive.
A guy like him will get his yards for sure, but something changed along the way...maybe we figured out their blocking scheme and adjusted, dont know...but certainly made a better show after the start.
The Sam Howell era is going to be interesting if it comes to that...he's Jameis Winston like...which is not good.

Hughes Breedlove Millen just dissected Geno's redzone woes on his KJR "Hardcore Football" segment. Geno ranks in the rock bottom 5 (2023-2024) out of 49 QBs for redzone efficiency. He is the very worst for INT/TD ratio in the redzone. So far the new coaching staff has not solved this issue.
Meanwhile, former LA RAMS OC Kevin O'Connell has a strong resume for COY with the Vikings. He has been so impressive this year after the departure of Kirk Cousins, losing his 1st round QB draft pick in preseason, and resurrecting Sam Darnold's career.
Dan Campbell is a coaching puzzle. He is good at inspiring and motivating his talented team, but every game he makes unforced errors that a very costly. You can get away with it until player talent thins out from attrition over a long season. The real power behind the Detroit Lion's ascendancy is GM Brad Holmes (a former LA RAMS executive). He has assembled a very young and talented team that is not overly reliant on Goff's serviceable, but not spectacular QB talents.
Josh Allen looks like a lock to win his first MVP. The Bills have a cupcake schedule rolling into the playoffs.

As was the case in Dallas, the debate will intensify over whether Purdy "deserves" that kind of money and whether he is, in fact, "elite."
