Non traditional Thanksgiving food

Besides the usual turkey, ham etc, what non traditional foods did your family enjoy during the thanksgiving holiday?
We alway had smoked salmon, pickled herring, oysters and lefsa.
Hate to say it as a Husky fan, but we also always had a big tin of Cougar Gold cheese around. πŸ˜‰ Damn good stuff!
As my mom got older and didn’t want to deal with the whole turkey or ham thing, we did lasagna a couple of years, which was just fine by me.

Having spent Thanksgiving in Hawaii for over 40 years...raw fish (both pokes & sashimi), kalua pig from the imu (as well as kalua turkey), maki sushi rolls, kimchi & local sweet potatoes (sometimes from the imu as well)...these accompanied the usual Thanksgiving fare...
 
One time my aunt was hosting thanksgiving and decided to go non-tradish. She made 'snow on the mountain'. Which is essentially every ingredient you can think of (including peanuts, apples, celery, coconut, cheese, raisins, chow mien noodles, pineapple, chicken, etc.) piled on top of each other....

I'm cool with non-tradish, but if you're gonna go that route at least give everyone a heads up. Nothing more disappointing than showing up for a turkey feast and getting a pile of mish mashed ingredients. I've never been more hungry after a thanksgiving party than I was that day....

 
Having Thanksgiving alone this year and the menu is already set. 10 big crappie fillets dipped in beer batter and fried in Crisco, buttermilk cornbread baked in cast iron, Cole slaw and fresh baked garlic bread. If I make it to Total Wine before then I'll buy a bottle of Moselle for the occasion, if not a modest Riesling will do. No pumpkin custard pie, extra chocolate brownies in the evening with vanilla bean ice cream.

Cooking for just one person is the dribblin' shits but Thanksgiving is the only holiday I honor and I like to have my favorites.
 
Did smoked turkey enchiladas one year, and smoked turkey mole another, both were very good, and would do again.
 
Had traditional food cooked & eaten in a non-traditional location . . . wall tent camp during a late archery hunt, complete with heavy snow (turkey & pies were cooked in a motorhome oven, but meal was in 2 tents.).
 
As a kid we also had smoked salmon and a smoked salmon spread, Lefse for sure and Krumkake more of a Christmas thing but my mom and grandmother would make it for Thanksgiving as well. I still always have Lefse, ordered from Mrs. Olson's out of Wisconsin I think, they overnight me two packs and I eat one at Thanksgiving and the other at Christmas, love that stuff. Always boiled red potatoes with butter and cranberries or lingon berries along with mashed potatoes and gravy.
 
Take a bite, close my eyes, and I am back in PA looking forward to another Wrestling season!

Stayed in York Pa last night and we dined at a local Italian themed Tap House with a fine looking menu. I ordered the Stromboli..just because, why not. Nicely presented, exquisitely sliced, tasted like shit!!!
WTF?????? Made with a base layer, and I mean layer, of a mustard that was made from a combo of
anti-freeze and cayenne pepper. Italian?? Wrestling??? Bruno Sammartino, the pride of Italy & Pittsburgh would put a choke hold on any SOB that put mustard on basic Italian meal. I can handle Scrapple, basically a POW food, but this, fugetaboutit! Ruined for life, never again. Fifteen hours later I can still taste it.

She’s having this…….2 of them….and I’m going fishing.

Not "home cooking", but my wife has fallen in love with having one of these plant-based Celebration Roasts on the table for thanksgiving after having it one year with some vegan family members. TBH, they are pretty darn good. Not a meat replacement, if one eats meat. But very much a tasty dish just on its own.

I love vegan food…it goes so well with meat…
