One would think GMs and Coaches would see the value in top shelf OL players and the pendulum would swing pay wise. Not only does protection give QBs time to make good decisions it would better preserve their most valuable asset. I wonder why we don't see more Dan Marino style fast action pass plays just to keep the D honest and up on the line etc. Like many things there seem to be trends so it will be interesting to see how it evolves in the next couple years.

They do see it. The problem is there is nobody there for them to be that top shelf o line player. That's the problem the league is running in to.
 
There's simply no O lineman who are any good at all just sitting around not playing.
Hell, Jason Peters is 41 years old, was on the Seahawks practice squad, and played last week...because there just ain't a bunch of young O line dudes who can step in and play.
 
Analytics are also getting involved in the game and decisions not only on play calling but player selection. Sorry. This game is not science. It is built upon the will and desires of men and being 250lbs and running a 4.3 is not the same as being 215 and running a 4.7 with quick game speed and natural instincts. There is always room in the game for a Largent or a Bobo …. But analytics would never allow it. Thankfully there’s still football people running some shows.

I remember hearing John Madden say he never drafted o-linemen in the first round because none of them are worth a damn for at least a year. He also said if he found an o-lineman that was a wrestler he would draft him. It goes to show you how good last years draft was for the Hawks.

Jim Harbaugh? Though I keep seeing reports of him to the Bears.
Either way, I think this will be his last year at Michigan. Maybe Lincoln Riley…….

There have been Jim Harbaugh rumors like this every year since Michigan backed a dump truck load of cash in to his driveway. I think he's made it pretty clear he's much happier in the NCAA world.
 
At least they will draft poorly...

Who was it that was the interim after Gruden was fired - given the circumstances he did a really good job, only to be let go and replaced with McDaniels? I think the Peter Principal was mentioned for McDaniels, I think it applies to the space alien at the top.

There are reports that Michigan rescinded his contract extension. He is denying it.
He was suspended for recruiting violations at the beginning of this season and now they have the sign stealing investigation going on.
One thing is certain about Harbaugh. He seems to wear out his welcome wherever he lands.

Rich Bisaccia, the special teams coach...players believed in him, and in a tough situation got them into the playoffs...

Yeah he's an odd character. Gets the wins, but everyone seems to hate him in the process.
