One would think GMs and Coaches would see the value in top shelf OL players and the pendulum would swing pay wise. Not only does protection give QBs time to make good decisions it would better preserve their most valuable asset. I wonder why we don't see more Dan Marino style fast action pass plays just to keep the D honest and up on the line etc. Like many things there seem to be trends so it will be interesting to see how it evolves in the next couple years. This goes back in to the point I've been making about Geno - O-line play has been on decline around the league for a while now, and I think we're starting to hit a tipping point. Not only is NCAA ball not preparing O-line for the pros, the big guys who are the better athletes are becoming defensive linemen because that's where the money is. So now we have a situation where d-lines are massively outperforming o-lines.
After watching the Raiders play last night, I guess they are not that bad.5-2, 2nd seed in the NFC, statistically one of the best QBs in the NFL, and just put up 24 points on the best defense in the NFL - the same one that seemingly de-railed the previously untouchable 49ers a few weeks ago.
You have someone else in mind to do better?
I get people demand perfection for whatever reason, but it's getting kind of ridiculous. Maybe watch some other teams for a bit and be thankful that Geno's on a very team-friendly contract, and despite his o-line having zero consistency and being a patchwork, is still keeping us in games (even if he's having some pretty rough patches because of said o-line).
I think in the high school game it is a matter of survivalEvan I think there is some validity in your statement. I also think the high school and college Oβs going to what I call the RPQRO offense is changing the dynamics of several positions. Pocket pass plays and true PAP are diminishing in the high school and college game.
The RPQRO eludes to run or pass or Qb run Oβ. You have many schools were the leading rusher or 2nd leading rusher is the QB. Which was practically unheard of 20 years ago except for a few select schools. That type of Oβ is not viable in the NFL. Anthony Richardson is a beast of a physical specimen but he didnβt last 6 games in the NFL. So as Dr. Magill points out the NFL will adjust to protect the trigger money man. Ebbs and flows. The college game moves up and into the nfl but the nfl game can also work itβs way down into the college game and top tier kids will go to the school that will teach and prepare them for Sunday game day, whatever style that is at the time.
Kids are getting full rides to D1 schools just for long snapping⦠it is a position. The game is always changing. Bring the FullBack back!!!![]()
Oh Iβm sure thereβs truth to that but there are solid programs throughout the state that even with the same head coach, same talent pool have departed their trusted power I or other traditional Oβs - and have gone to the pistol RPO type offense. And now youβre seeing more 3-5-3 or even 2-5-4 aligned Dβs in hopes to counter the O. Itβs an evolving game but it is not as simple as changing plays and players switching positions every year or even every week. You have to be committed to a base style of play and depending on your talent and depth it will allow you to explore the wider spectrums of creative play design or you simply will run the same 5-6 plays and run them to perfection come hell or high water.I think in the high school game it is a matter of survival
There are some serious talent differences throughout the programs that they need to adapt to their personal to
Imagine a normal dude lining up against Ohio Stateβs next edge rusher for the evening
Ouch
A pocket collapses and now we have a sprint out
Might as well call the sprint out and at least have a shot at the protection.
Plunkett turned out ok...Mac has not done well under pressure either. 1.5 years of having an awful line and slow receivers does that to a young QB. I mean, the Patsies may have a worse line that the Raiders.
If the Patsies can get a pick at this point, they should do it. The dude is broken like a Jets QB is supposed to be. He should get the Jim Plunkett treatment and be forced to sit out a year just to recover physically and mentally. It may even take 7 years like it did Geno.
Jimmy G is gun shy...missed so many open receivers...time to let the kid from Purdue play...After watching the Raiders play last night o guess the are not that bad.
Jets...

Oβdea produces some good lineman huh?Itβs all evolving
Honestly - if a team like OβDea were to evolve and run some sort of spread/zone read/ RPO offense they benefit tremendously
They run the I

Great program
Slow to evolve probably because they donβt have to
Almost certainlyThey donβt. And they if did they probably suffer I would guess.
better for you guys to be injured midseason, then get healthy at the end than vice versa. It's pretty amazing how many SB champs have that mid-season slump from either just a playing standpoint or injury standpoint then get healthy at the end when it really counts.Man, if young can stay healthy this could be a really nice free rental. Traded a comp pick for him and will probably get one back unless he wants to sign a nice deal.
I was hoping they'd get a CB too, and it sounds like they tried. The ways the rules are called these days its almost impossible for a CB so a DE might be a better value anyway.
If Williams and Deebo are healthy after their bye they are primed for a run!
