NFR NFL 2023 Season

Non-fishing related
Just gonna throw it out there, I don't think the Hawk's are gonna get the Lombardi this year :D. However, I choose to look onward in positivity, and say thank you Seahawks! For losing on a Thursday, so I can go fishing this Sunday!

Near the end the Hawks were up by five with around 4 minutes to go, had the ball and went conservative calling run plays. They needed a touch down to put Dallas behind by 12. What happened is one of the best illustrations on how to lose a game.

I thought overall, it was probably the best play calling they've had all season. But my god the 4th and short play calling is the worst I think I've ever seen from anyone. A lot of the same problems you see with their 3rd down calls this year.. Just super bizarre play calls that have little to no chance at success. Instead of putting everything in to just getting the ball the 1yd they need to extend the drive, they dial up a 15yd pass play or something... or a run up the middle out of shotgun... I just don't understand what is inspiring this, or why they keep trying it.

Here's the thing I'm going through right now.

The increasingly poor, often one-sided officiating is really making me lose my stoke to watch. Whether there really is some conspiracy, or just incompetence, it's affecting outcomes and making it really hard to watch. Most of the penalties last night were absolutely justified, but the TIMING of so many was egregious. Dallas with how many drive-extending calls on third down when Seattle got a defensive stop? Usually with a db so much at brushing his hand on the receiver? Then on the other side of the ball, those same things or worse going ignored when Seattle on offense? I dunno... When the officiating is affecting things this much, it's getting tough. Draw your own conclusions if you think something's up... All I know is whether it's planned or not, favoring the big market teams (which it seems to be doing), it's making watching a lot less fun.

Another fun one was them not stopping the clock before the field goal attempt, where Pete tried to call a timeout, but they just gave the delay of game penalty, essentially icing the kick (which he still should've made).

Compared to McCarthy doing the same thing when the snap happened before the Fant touchdown that was called back.

likely half of those pass interference calls would not have been called by another crew of ref's...take away those calls and Hawks would have won.
That game changing Lockett drop? He should have been made to walk home after the game.
Easily the worse fourth down go for it play of the year...a call from the Brea Tar Pits.

OK, I'll bight - not disagreeing that all the penalties take away from the game and there is poor officiating, but if it is truly a conspiracy, why make the calls at the "critical" times when everyone will point them out? Why not make them on first or second down, early in a quarter/game, help the favored team march down the field and score, or stop the unfavored team with some hands to the face call or a pick play, which can be called on just about every play? No, they always wait until a critical point to swing the game - seems an odd way to run a railroad.

Oh, and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!

Oh they definitely had plays like Lockett's drop, Meyer's miss.... not blocking the best pass rusher in the NFL.. Still, this game felt winnable, but I never felt like they were actually going to win it.

Because the refs are literally above criticism. Coaches and players get fined for even bringing it up, and the rest of us are just going to tune in and watch the next week anyways.

Like I said, I'm not taking a strong stance on this conspiracy thing. All I know is I keep seeing a pattern, and it's already made me less motivated to watch other games throughout the week, which I used to do a LOT of. I watch the Seahawks and that's about it now. Seeing this same pattern of bad officiating is just getting hard to ignore for me. This year things have been so much more egregious, and I started noticing it a few seasons ago.

Not so sure on that every official is evaluated for every game "The highest-graded officials are rewarded by working postseason games. Those who have had subpar performances during the regular season watch the playoffs from home." Poor officiating can get you fire or your contract not renewed (they are on an annual contract)

Go Chiefs

Jamal Adams might not make the Pro Bowl this year.

not to armchair too much, but perhaps they should have slid someone over to help block (or just block) Parsons on that last play....I think that might have been a good idea.
Ya think?…if you’re gonna block anyone, it’s him…
