What About Winning the Super Bowl?

At 12.61%, Tom Brady’s 2021 Super Bowl victory with the Buccaneers made him the highest cap-percentage quarterback to ever win the game, surpassing his 2018 victory with the Patriots, when he represented 12.42%.

This Metric On Average

Since 2011, the median cap percentage for a QB reaching the Super Bowl is 8.97%. The median cap percentage for a QB to win the Super Bowl is 10%.

In the past 10 Super Bowls, 5 of the winning QBs represents less than 10% of the cap (with Nick Foles at 0.96% being the outlier), and 5 were above 10% (all named Brady or Manning).

Where Do Matthew Stafford & Joe Burrow Stand?

This year’s final two QBs certainly fall in line with the trends, as Matthew Stafford’s $20M cap figure in LA represents 10.96% of the league cap, while Joe Burrow’s 2nd year figure calculcates to just 4.51%. If Burrow were to win the Super Bowl, the median figure for winning QBs since 2011 will drop to 8.8%, falling under the median for losing QBs (which would increase to 9.07%).

This would further enable the point that putting too many chips into one basket is risky business, even if that basket (a.k.a the Quarterback) represents one of the most important positions in all of sports.

Metcalf already saying he wants out

Also can't help but wonder what this means for DKs future. Getting rid of one of the best deep ball throwers in the game has to make a great deep ball WR wonder about resigning. I suppose they can always franchise him, but that doesn't always seem to work well with receivers.

The Seahawks used a 3rd round pick to draft RW. They then had him for 10 or so years and won a superbowl while going to 2.

They then trade him for 2 -1's , 2 -2's and swap a 4th for a 5. They also recieve a young athletic TE, a quarterback to hold the seat warm and an average DT. Not a bad haul.

Seattle got RW's best years and maximized their return at the end. Pocket passer age better than athletic passers. Look at how Cunningham, Steve Young (good comparison), Cam Newton etc. aged. The Brady', Brees' and Manning's of the world age well. The runners, especially short ones do not age as well.

I think it's a good trade for both teams.

I'll concede that part of my issues are with "Peteball." Stats or no, the eye test on Wilson hasn't done it for me the last couple years. Some games he was absolute trash, others he was god-tier. And either he or Pete have serious issues with checkdowns, especially over the middle.

This is going to be a very different team going forward. No doubt it won't be good for the next year or two at least. And I'll feel a lot better once Pete at the very least takes a step back.

DK is probably going to get 20 plus million a year starting in 2023.

Resigning ?

Lol
He may be staying and Lockett going.
If he goes via trade, he'll command a lot.

For me if just comes down to we aren't good enough even with a healthy Russ to win it all...we are probably the worst team in our stacked division even with Russ.

Russ was gone for nothing after next year if the reports are true that we weren't willing to pay him his $50+ million a year. We got a monster haul of picks and players back (Fant was a 1st rounder just a few years ago and has played great, and TE was a huge need).

Always sucks when a franchise legend is gone. Hope he wins another ring or two in Denver, the rest of their roster is certainly better than the hawks right now.

We won't know who "won" this trade for years, but on paper it seems like a good deal for both teams.

I feel like this has to precede any football season:

Re-sign - to sign a new deal
Resign - To take a dump on your desk and hand your boss a paper that says "f you I'm out."

Re-signing

He's still on his rookie contract. Not sure how much motivation he'd have to sign here without a QB. He definitely strikes me as the type who would be worried about that. Trade sure could be a possibility, but where do the Hawks draw the line in regards to trading away all their best talent? I dunno.

My DK prediction. I see a pouting, immature diva filled divorce coming.....
SF

I tend to agree
Same. He reminds me a bit of OBJ in that regard, but might have just enough leadership in the locker room to keep him mostly under control. I wouldn't be totally heartbroken to not have him during a rebuild if he has toxic tendencies.

Excited to have the potential to get a QB that can use the middle of the field :D

I dont necessarily disagree but I also don't put much stock into the reports that they didn't want to pay him. That sort of stuff is pretty typically said afterwards in these scenarios. Just as they all claimed prior to this trade that they were not wanting to trade him at all.

Kinda like how easy it is to call a girlfriend "ugly" after she dumps you.

Who knows how much of this was just John and Pete and how much of it was Russ truly wanting out. Reports have been flopping back and forth on that for a couple years now. We'll never truly know.

Russ had a no-trade clause. He wanted out.

If it's not a rebuild, it's a retool.
More moves to come is my guess.
Before it's all over, it's hard to say what we'll look like next year, with new coaches and all.
I still think we got the most we could in the trade, as if traded next year ( the last Wilson was under contract) we'd have gotten less, as anyone wanting him could just wait till he hit the free agent scene.

Very possible. But no trade clauses don't exist simply because a player wants to stay somewhere forever. They exist to give big name players leverage on where they go if they do want to leave.

My point was that Russ has been saying all along he wanted to stay. Hawks have been saying they don't want to trade him. So someone was lying. Either it was Russ and he forced the issue (hes had a list of teams he'd be willing to go to for a couple years or more if he was to be traded) , or John and Pete truly didn't want to pay him and this was an opportunity to make the most out of it.

Either way, what both sides have been saying in the media does not match up with what actually happened, so at this point I have a hard time trusting reports of any he said/she said shit.

At least I'll have an excuse to watch day 1 of the draft this year!
