I don't know... I mean, overall, sure. You gotta be impressed with the kid. But he made more than a few really questionable throws that if we played this game again, could easily have led to multiple INTs.

That was one for the hawks for sure. But I still think some of the calls/no-calls were petty on the hawks side of things.
But that's being a fan for you. Nobody likes the refs.

Hell of a first half for the Hawks. Hell of a season nobody saw coming. Big congrats, especially given the draft picks you hit on and the ones you have coming up.
Never been a fan of Petey boy since his cheating at USC but he did a great job this year.
Saw that they might franchise tag Geno next year. Thats like top 5 QB money right? They would be crazy to do that. Geno is good not great.

Definitely restarting this rivalry—which is fun! As long as you guys don’t go backwards, the next coupl seasons are going to be fun.
Ya will be super interesting to see how they handle their QB situation this off-season.
They have a lot invested in Lance, and still likely don't have a total sense of how good he can be due to injury.

This has been a better season for the Sea Hawks than I (and most others) expected. Some of that is due to really solid play by Geno Smith, with some hiccups. But to be honest, it hasn't made the decisions about the near-future of the team (3-5 years) any easier.
Option 1. Pay Geno $30 million / year (13% of a projected $225 million salary cap). Use the #5 pick in the first round of the draft to select a defensive stud, your monster defensive end. Pick up a back-up quarterback in the 3rd or 4th round for depth. Use your other picks strategically to add depth and talent where needed. If Geno's performance this season can be repeated, you will have a solid team but whose depth can be suspect, especially given the injuries that commonly appear in an NFL season. There probably won't be much money for top free agents. Predicting the transition of defensive end vs. quarterback from college to the pros appears to be lower risk.
Option 2. Do not sign Geno to a new contract. Save that $30 million to sign top free agents on offense and defense. Use the #5 pick in the draft to pick up a top quarterback prospect. Use other draft picks to add depth and talent. The transition of top college quarterbacks to the pros is "hit big or miss big"; high risk / reward. And a rookie quarterback's first season is likely to be rocky because NFL defenses are so much more complex and talented than college defenses. On the other hand, the Sea Hawks have quality wide receivers to throw to and Carroll's emphasis on the running game can lift some of the pressure on a rookie quarterback to do it all.

I think it's an option. After all, Geno is 32. How many years is he going to be playing at this level? Even if we agree that this year wasn't a fluke and he's made a jump over his previous struggles, he's still not the future. Hawks need to find a young QB to play in a year or two. If Geno wants to sign a decent contract for 2 years with a team option for a 3rd (or something), I suspect the hawks do it and use their high draft picks on D. But if he won't or wants to play hardball (knowing this is likely his last multi year contract), then hawks can use the franchise tag on him for a year and draft the future with a higher pick.
Tag would cost ~$30M for Geno. Which isn't terrible in this day and age.
I think Geno is very good overall, but he seems to lack that iconic ability to "put a team on his back." When the rest of the team is good, he's very good. When the team needs a miracle, he seems to come up short more often than not. He could win a Super Bowl on a team with an elite defense, but not this team.
Incidentally, however, like every game the Hawks lost this year, the defense and their inability to consistently stop the run and the short pass was what made it impossible to win. Not sure any QB overcomes a soft defense over a full season.

Well the first half was fun
I might be in the minority here but I'm just not a fan of our safeties outside of Neal. I know Diggs had that big play last week but to me he just doesn't warrant the cost.
And the Jamal trade was horrible and I was hoping we could cut him but realistically we can't till 2024.
So we are stuck with two expensive aging safeties both with high dead costs if cut. Not ideal.
