Legend
What an awful start to a new year.

The darkness and hate in this country is growing all of the time 83 school shootings last year, other assorted atrocities, politicians in both factions that spew hatred towards those who vote for the other group of nuts. It goes on and on.

We each need to examine our self and honestly look at how we have contributed to this horror and how we can contribute to correcting it. Do you love your neighbor? How about your enemy? Your co-workers? The homeless drug addict you pass outside of the grocery store? How about the bait fisher who low-holes you?

Had to vent, what an awful way to start a new year. My heart aches for the victims, families, city of New Orleans and this nation.

I'm beginning (😉) to think that humans are not (or have ever been) an intrinsically altruistic species. The whole Jungian duality of man thing.

Tragic. Now the media will blow this up into a spectacle, ensuring that another suicidal person has some inspiration into how they want to go out. Didn't a similar thing happen just days ago?
And yes, part of the problem is spiritual. We need some help looking critically at ourselves, and getting the strength together to change what we see that we don't like. That's after we accept that the one in the mirror is the only one we can change.

The same phenomena observed in teenage suicides...a mind in profound turmoil (rage, loss, adolescence, addiction...whatever) seeks solutions....many of which result in tragedy.

There's a sizeable percentage of the general population with sociopathic 'low to zero' empathy and an inability to control impulses or even consider consequences. For these folks self-reflection just isn't on the table..

Throw in all sorts of mind-altering substances like alcohol or fentanyl, with a dose of irresponsible click bait social media...and you've got the perfect recipe for this stuff.

Frankly....I don't see it changing at all. And the problem obviously isn't confined to America.

We have become a weak target for some time! It is become more visible on a daily basis with (I will say it since MSM will not) Gang Violence and cartel growing (Washington state) with little repercussions from law enforcement and judicial system.

Those that are willing to be honest (numerous law enforcement and military friends share) share, we have become ostriches about what is happening, focusing on the tool instead of all the other destructive forces both internal and external. Unwilling to take the hard necessary steps to stop the rabid dogs.

It is sad how so many are unwilling to look or address the Big issue until it touches them personally, then they act in shock and surprise like this is something new.

Similar to, his many living in Wa/Or are or will prepare for a major volcanic activity or major earthquake, knowing it is a possibility. Are you "prepared" for 2 week of self reliance?

The PNW response planning for such catastrophes assumes huge numbers of you wet-siders will have to evacuate to Spokane. I'm not ready to have all you yahoo's moving in and ruining what little flyfishing we have left.

And don't even think about parking/camping in my cul-de-sac.

There is, of course, the threat of the Yellowstone Caldera popping off...but that's supposed to be so big here we won't be walkin' away from that sum'bitch.

On a more serious note....humans are not really oriented to thinking and reacting beyond the moment. We don't even remember relatively recent history. Shit just happens, we try to deal with it....and (except for those deemed worry-worts) we forget about it.

Hell...we can't even seem to be able to agree enough to get rid of daylight savings time....now the squabble is which way it goes.

It can be done. Even after the devastation and atrocities of WW2, the US and others helped rebuild Germany and Japan. They are now some of our closest allies and biggest contibutors to the world's economy.

It had to take a lot of conviction, forgiveness and work to make that happen. If we could all fix that by working together, then surely we should be able to fix some of our current problems.

Split the difference. 12:30 becomes 12:00 and we move on with life.
If I were King, anyway…

Now that's just crazy-talk. 🤣

Heck, since I retired a couple of months ago, I rarely know what day, date or time it is. 😁
Hell... I cant tell you what day of the week it is most of the time, and I'm not even retired.
