New Asquith

"Asquith" means "Ash tree wood." To me it sounds like something worn while ice fishing to keep your butt warm ...
. Now the name?

Sounds like maybe they’re targeting the streamer guys. Kinda funny since that genre historically were from the bubba end of the spectrum. But times change.
Unless I’m on the Sound I’ll stick with my 686 for that (@ 1/3 the price).

Once again it’s the $$$$$…..in my opinion. Will it catch more fish than my bamboo ugly stick, no. Will you impress more people at the boat launch?? Probably not unless you want or own one of these ridiculously priced plastic rods. Like any sport or anything, some with deep pockets or those that like to be in debt and want to “impress” others go for it! Back in my snow skiing days, I’d buy good equipment but not the latest greatest most expensive because you can’t buy experience! “When the green flag drops….the bullshit stops!” My .02

Interesting, first, there is NO WOOOOD!!!

Second, I used the Google machine, and I got Herbert Henry Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith, which is probably more fitting than "Ash tree wood", especially since there IS NO WOOOOOOD!!!

cheers

Not only will it catch more fish, but they'll be stronger and much bigger! JK.. I'm not surprised at the prices, high end rods have always been there. I want a bamboo spey from a maker in ID.. It's much more.. but beautiful!

cost of doing business....

ah, the good old days when we could bitch and moan about the Orvis H-whatever coming in at $1K....We probably should just pin this one to the top so that whenever the latest new top end model comes out we can just copy and paste our complaints.

Or create a multiple choice poll that never closes...

even better....with the ability to add models as they come out.

A year plus back I backed out of a Brackett bamboo, not because I couldn’t afford it, but because I realized I have enough fun with modern fiberglass, along with a mix of a few graphite rods for when speed counts. I could easily afford the Asquith (or any boo probably) and might enjoy any casting advantages it might offer. But honestly, I’m perfectly content with the stable I have. Besides, I’m fairly confident the Asquith can’t even approach at least one rod I own. I’ve heard some will pony up 4 digits for a Winston DL, and they are in fact pretty exceptional if you’re serious into casting. No question it will do some things you can’t do easily with other rods. Pity they had a short shelf life. Mine came from a treasured friend, now passed.
Sinner that I am though, I’m busy perfecting my golf bag right now. Blasphemy I know ;-).

It's okay. You're still waving expensive plastic sticks in the air. You may retain your club membership.

I truly wanted to embrace bamboo, but couldn’t quite justify it. Probably (partially) because it seems like an “all or nothing” mentality. I truly believe in the ideal of bamboo, but for me I tried to factor in practicality. In short, modern fiberglass won, given all factors.

I got my first bamboo rod for $200. A Chinese made blank from Headwaters on sale! Yes you can buy expensive ones, but the fish don't care.. a nice little reel.. a 5wt line I already had. Now I have 5 bamboo rods! Good deals are out there.. finding the right one is hard, especially if you buy used rods. Fiberglass is awesome too! I have a few.. good luck!

I've learned a lot from the board members, and the Bamboo Fling, we've done for a while. They helped me figure out what to focus on, and I love all of the rods I own. And many of them build beautiful rods in our area!
