Never skip leg day

When we sold and took our profits on our Seattle house, we overbought on space out in bumf*ck so we could have separate offices, media and fitness room leaving no place for guests...

Still getting things set up but we have his (Kickr) and hers (Peleton) bikes, dumbells, bench and a TRX strap mounted on the wall outside the frame. Will probably redo the floors at some point. We tried the foam tiles but they felt too squishy on the carpet. Looking for some inspirational surfing and cycling prints right now. Damn dog is always on the yoga mat.

Another Peleton and a Concept 2 rower at our place on the river.

Health is always a good investment; time and $$.

I once had a trainer tell me "there is a reason I look like what I do and you look like what you do."

Or as Jimmy Buffett sang, " I treat my body like a temple, you treat yours like a tent." Fruitcakes

Right about where I was. I think 4:48 was my best 1500, 2:03 in the 800, cross country I was in the 17:30 range. That was 20 years ago, I can't run across a parking lot now.
Those are good times. I ran 32:30 10k's twice, one in a triathlon.

I got a few hours of leg work in kicking the tube around

I just try to do a variety of real stuff on a regular basis to stay fit. I hated riding rollers in the winter, just can't get my mind into inside workouts.

At this point my athletic glory days are ancient history. Now I’m content to maintain a routine of daily stretching and brisk walking. I work from home and have the freedom to get in an average of about 3 miles a day during the week. When the weather or my schedule keep me indoors, I hit the Concept 2 rowing machine. But I’d much rather be outside.

Gotta keep moving! Motion is lotion!

Well damn. TN milesplit will no longer let me see my middle and high school track/XC times, but I can say for certain that the only way my 1600m time starts with a 4 again is if e-bike manufacturers start making e-legs.

I think you made a wise call on the house. Bumfxck is an up and coming area. I myself am invested there. She's a real up and comer.

I've got a Strava/Zwift trainer that I put winter miles on. I recently bought a set of fancy adjustable dumbells like @Herkileez has, but haven't done much with them because I jacked up my shoulder snowboarding and have been lazy about doing my PT for it. Open to hearing any good dumbell workouts though. I suspect I'll need to find a basic weight bench to get the most out of them though.

Nice looking setup, Josh. I have same w/ CycleOps trainer. Strava ruined my fishing career.

That dog is doing “upward facing dog”

I have way to much exercise equipment around. I actually use it, a lot but I still am working on dropping some weight. Down 20 lbs the last two months on my way to dropping at least 45. Damn desk job (and appetite :))

Basement treadmill, rowing machine and weight machine….

Treadmill at stand up desk. Honestly it’s tough to work and use this thing so it really only gets turned on during 2+ hour meetings where I’m not actively participating a ton.

My favorite leg work as of late is kicking around my pontoon/float tube though. Probably average 6-7 hours a week over the last month and a half doing that.

Wife and I excercise daily..swam a mile yesterday, 10 miles on the trail bike this morning, weights and power bands every other day, morning crunches on a mat, Armstrong trainer in the corner for when the weather closes in. Eat lean and don't drink. At 72, 6'2 x 185#, same as at 30, still make regular surfing runs to the coast. Less about how many years we get and more about max enjoying the ones we do...eat right, stay fit, make and bank as many grins as you can...

I use Zwift a lot (only a little more climbing to the Tron bike!) and used to post to Strava but the privacy issues creeped me out a bit. Plus, I kept seeing undefined workout posts from people at very odd hours like 2AM and decided that was none of my business. Beware the fitness tracker watch.

Home makeshift gym…

Incline/decline adj bench
Flat/incline adj barbell bench with leg ext/ham curl attachment

4 skateboards - Alva, McGill, Dogtown, Santa Cruz
Walking when I can

Speaking of Strava, ever since opening this thread I've been inundated with Strava ads on FB/IG. The internet is a lovely place. Now that I've typed it out I'm sure I'm in for 10x more.

My PT that's helping me with my shoulder kicks my ass on one of those Total Gyms. Only used it for shoulder stuff but seems like there's a lot of possibilities with that. I really need to get my ass into better shape.

I see you have a Concept 2 rower. I regard my Concept 2 as the most important piece of exercise equipment I own...great full body workout. I do a lot of interval work on it with a heart rate monitor.

HA., I WAS going to mention the couch! Very un-Swimmy-ish.

I’ve mentioned this before, after 41 years I had to finally quit running last September. I never loved running like some people do but i didn’t realize how much i would miss it anyway. So i started a new routine.

I no longer have to see my physical therapist but I continue to maintain the PT daily exercises and keeping a daily journal of it keeps me on track. (I really hate when i have to write “Day Off”.) So i use my old running rule to never ever miss more than two days in a row of exercise.

I now walk more days a week than i used to run and my walk is always between 45-90 minutes. I am back to using free weights three times a week, but i had to switch from 8 lbs to 5 lbs. (Sometimes you have to do the exercises you know you will stick with, (which is why i quit doing planks!). I also added core work which is key to my back issues.

Watching my mom sit around all day and walking with a cane and moving slow has been the best incentive! For me this is not just about wanting to be healthy and keeping weight off, it’s most about me getting older and being as mobile as i can be. And also my mental health.

I received my Medicare card in the mail yesterday. That was fairly depressing too like having to give up running.
You might do well to think of your new Medicare card as a trophy commemorating your retirement and freedom from steadily deteriorating employer medical plans.

While I have been very physically active all my life, retirement has really opened up a world of much greater opportunities to be active that aren't impacted by conflicting personal energy demands from an employer or even shitty weather. Running was a quick 'fast food' exercise fix (believe me, I know, as a former marathoner) that is easily replaced by walking, hiking, and exploring the world outside at a pace at which you can savor each moment.
