Monthly Tying Contest?

Appreciate I may be the minority here but I have never thought fly fishing nor fly tying should be a timed and scored event.

When @James St. Clair called out my pat's in one of the contests it really pushed me as a tier and a fisher. I've settled on the knuckle dragging platform and am just tickled with the results. I'll participate in some for sure!

Man, the Pat's sure catch fish, but they are a boring tie, and a crutch for guides and fly shop salespeople, along with the fisherpeople who buy them, catch fish on them, and then lose their imigination or interest in fishing any other pattern (unless its a worm trailing behind it). Plus, whoever Pat is took credit for tying a Girdle bug with variegated chenille (instead of black chenille) and spanflex (instead of white rubber...and now the fly company's each have their own version, and that pattern is probably keeping the lights on so all the other "signature tiers" can put their names on perdigons with a certain color of thread, or Pheasant tails with hot spot collars, etc.

But fishing should be fun, and if catching fish on a slightly updated Girdle Bug makes it fun, then who am I to care, haha!

I like your Knuckle Dragger Tom! Super buggy, and as you have proved, it's a fish slayer!!!
