Margarine Thread

I’m not a dietician or a serious scientist
But I think anytime you ingest fake shit and ask your body to deal with it you’re rolling the dice on what your body might decide.
I’ll never forget the no-cal potato chips
Answer was fake fat
The body didn’t know how to handle it
Sweeteners are in the same class
I agree with you. In the case of my mom's brownies with 1/2 of Oleo - I think there was a time when consumers were led to believe things like "margarine" were better for you than "butter". Now we know better, I hope; margarine is probably closer to crude oil than fat from milk. (We use butter, olive oil and peanut oil for cooking/spreading/munching - always butter on popcorn popped in peanut oil.
 
I grew during Peak Margarine. My depression era mom was as "thrifty" as anyone you ever saw. However, she refused to have anything but real butter in the house. These days we buy big hunks of Amish Country butter. All the Missoula markets carry it.
