Lost flyrod today

Well, I did the unthinkable today. I drove off with my flyrod on the roof of my pickup.
I was at Point no point and left around noon.
So...... if anybody has found my cherished Sage and is willing to reconnect it with me I'll give them a description of it and reel.
Of course there will be a reward for its safe return!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I sure hope it finds its way home.
After a cpl of actual gear losses and near misses when putting my rod on the roof or clipping them with a magnetic holder to the rear quarter panel, and putting gear on the ground, I began doing a walk around. Now for several years I've put my rod under a windshield wiper when gearing down, and NOTHING goes on the roof or the ground. Plus I backup to view and thoroughly inspect where I was parked before pulling away.
 
You probably already have but if not, let the local fly shops know.
If I was an 'honest person' with no knowledge of fly fishing or the forums that's most likely where I would go.
I don't know but wonder if FB Marketplace or Craigslist might have a Lost and Found.:unsure:
 
Might be worth checking at the Post Office or store just to see if anyone dropped it off.
If you are on FB, there are groups like Pacific NW Shore Fishing that you could post your loss in as some gear anglers not not visit fly fishing sites.

Thanks all for your condolences and tips. What happened is I was kind of rushed as someone wanted my parking spot and was waiting. My normal routine is my rod goes on the left side in my pickup bed. There or broke down and on top of my folded up backseat. My truck was full in back and next step was to put it in the cab. So I broke my routine, set it on my rooftop and then got changed. Then spaced the rod out. Should have just chilled and taken my time. A hard lesson learned.
So everyone please be on the lookout for a well used and loved 9ft 6in Sage One with an inexpensive Ross reel and quickshooter line.

Ouch. Been there. Done that. I realized what I had done immediately and was able to recover all 4...I mean 5 pieces (DOH!). Fortunately, that experience has a way of lingering in our brains, thereby preventing subsequent occurrences.

Tired of constantly assembling and disassembling fly outfits about 20 years ago, I got in the habit of stowing/walking with my rods, lined and assembled, in 2 pieces, secured together with soft hair ties. That will fit in almost any car/truck cab/etc., allowing me to stow the rods first thing when I get ready to break down and go home. The downside to this is that my stuff gets a little scratched up, but the benefit (being ready to fish or ready to pack up and move almost immediately) outweighs that easily, in my mind. Reflecting on your situation (no room in usual place of storage), I suppose this technique might not have helped in your particular case, but generally speaking, having rods in pieces small enough to stow immediately cuts down on the likelihood of forgetting where you set them while gearing down.
 
Oh man. I have done the same thing. Left my Sage RP696-2 with Sage 508 reel on top of my 4Runner fishing the Deschutes upstream from Maupin. Had decided to head up to a different run, parked, got out of car to walk down to fish and realized I had put the rod on top of rig. Got back into 4Runner and headed back down the road real fast came around a corner, and there was my rod lying diagonally across the road, I was able to stop in time, barely, and recovered said rod. Lesson learned, almost the hard way.
 
The first thing I do when I get back to the truck is put the rods back in their case and on the back seat. I don't lean them up to the truck or put them in the bed.

Hope you get your rod back. But when back at vehicle this is primary and taken care of immediately. Now regarding shirts and hats …. 😞
