Not just East Coast. In 2021 California passed a law essentially banning all small gas powered motors starting next year:

So in 20+ yrs when the mowers and blowers start to give up the ghost.....the owners will have them serviced/repaired or buy an electric tool.

Eventually in about 30 yrs the conversion will be completed.

About 10 years...give or take, longer in more isolated areas I'd guess.

I bought a Black and Decker Lawn Hog 20+ years ago. Corded electric. Still have it, still works, still a PITA to deal with the cord, but is now in excess inventory. Changed the blade once, the bag is a bit frayed, but it's been replaced by both a self propelled ryobi battery unit and a lawn care service, depending on my flare ups of A.S. .

Will never go back to gas. Even our service uses electrics (STIHL), and Henry does a lot of the local lawns here.
