Given I only get a couple trips for tigers this year, I was pretty jacked just to see some follow my fly. The one that turned his head and stared me in the eye was in the 40" class. No telling what my response will be when I finally stick one.Just last weekend. hooking and landing a low 40" tiger musky, nearly ripped the rod out of my hand on the eat, gave me no fewer than 3 full jumps, and fought like it thought it was a smallmouth.....even bent out the hook and got out of the net while I was trying get the hook out (mission accomplished) while not keeping it in the net (mission failed)...effing sweet!
Another was just getting my ass kicked by a very large Pargo down in MX....effing sweet!
Just keep telling yourself "strip set, strip set, strip set!"Given I only get a couple trips for tigers this year, I was pretty jacked just to see some follow my fly. That's the thing, I have fished the salt a bunch. Just not recently.Just keep telling yourself "strip set, strip set, strip set!"
I still screw up my hook sets from time to time! Although, if you fish a bunch of saltwater, you're not gonna have any issues.
In case anyone thinks I'm making this up, here's me after landing a nice chinook the other day.I do want to clarify that while I may always look like this kid on the outside when I hook awesome fish, I am super pumped on the inside.

I'm sleepless with excitement the night before any and all non-PS beach fishing trips, and giddy even when gearing up for the 5th PS beach trip of a week. When were you totally pumped, Hulk Hogan style muscle flexing, could not stop stammering with 4 letter words, shocked and elated at the same time?
I have caught lots of fish, as many of you have.
My fondest memories:
When I caught a large catfish on a fly, totally unexpected, on a local lake.
When I caught a 70 lb. salmon at Rivers Inlet. That was also the last time I got to fish with my Dad.
My first steelhead on the Dose, on bamboo even...

Well here you go, then!I love to fish, but I'm not sure if I've ever been pumped for or about it. OK, the first 20+ pound steelhead caused me to let out some kind of war whoop. Otherwise I think I have a fairly high threshold for being pumped. It usually takes something on the order of a near death experience and surviving it - that gets my pulse rate way up there. If I were being chased by cannibals and escaped, that would probably do it. But fishing is a lot of fun without having to survive a near death experience to enjoy it.
