Lake Report

After a long hiatus I was able to get out and hit a lake today.

The trip down the lake was nice. No wind.

Not sure why the husky looks stoned. All I had in the boat was one Mac & Jacks African Amber.

The fishing was decent. The hot flies were a booby, jig fry and a black jig leech.

Caught a mix of Rainbows, Westslopes and hybrids.

Both my batteries died at the far end of the lake. I had to row back to the ramp against the wind (of course!). I haven’t rowed 4.5 miles in a long time. Time for some new batteries!

4.5 miles? Yikes! I don’t think I’ve rowed more than 1.5 against the wind. And that’s plenty.

Great pictures, beautiful trout!

I wonder, why is it that the wind is always against us at the end of the day? A lake here on the eastside - morning wind against me as I row out and ALWAYS against me rowing back to the launch. Twice I've had to wade through the muck and slime to two my boat back, too much "W" and I guess my battery was dead. Nice report!

......and maybe a PWM for those new batteries!

Great report, beautiful lake and fish. The black leech has been a good fly for me over here as well.

For years, a couple of buddies and I would do lunchtime road bike rides. We usually started riding south -- into the predominant wind around here (Olympia). We often thought we'd be flying on the way back, but when we made the turn, we found we were riding into the wind. Great, a headwind both ways!

This happened way too many times to be coincidental. I just think the wind often changes direction around noon/mid-day. Either that, or the local wind gods were pissed at us.

Just my very scientific observation...

First, nice fish and nice pics.
I have a healthy respect for the winds that can spring up on that lake when I am fishing from my pontoon boat. More than once, while casting hopper patterns along the lake drop-off, I have been caught downlake in a rising breeze where I had to use oars and fins simultaneously to make progress back to the launch.

I should of been less dramatic about the 4+ mile row back.
I have a 14’ fiberglass drift boat that is very easy to row. I’ve done it in a 14’ Valco (barge) with 5’ oars. I’m still scarred from that trip:)!
I think I got my moneys worth out of one of the batteries that died.

When my wife wasn’t looking I snuck something in our cart at Costco today.
