Welp, I did it. Rewarded myself for responsible saving and working multiple jobs by getting my new arch tower for the ocean boat, and giving in to Livescope temptation.
This is actually the third time I've purchased one. The previous two times over the last couple of years, I returned it without opening the box. Decided that money needed to go elsewhere.
I don't see this helping my fly fishing game other than being fun for shad, and my very occasional bass trips. But I do plenty else I did get it for.
I've just finished up my preparations for the shakedown trip. I have been working on solutions for using it in both boats. My initial inquiries about this indicated it couldn't really be done because the livescope blackbox unit that connects the transducer to the head unit is permanently mounted and connected to power and a network cable.
Solution? Make portable power, and get an extra network cable so there's one in each boat. My friend gave me two of these cases a couple years ago when his work was throwing them away after a project. Glad I kept them until I found their new purpose in life.
I got two 25ah lithium batteries running in parallel to give me a full day of use at least.
The transducer mounts to a pole, which I connect to each boat with a ram ball mount. Ocean boat uses a scotty mount for the Ram ball, small boat uses a clamp for the ball.
I'll report my day 1 frustrations tomorrow after using it for Columbia River salmon trolling.
