My I introduce a special young man, Mr. Wyatt Elias. Wyatt is my 5th State Champion and I couldn't be prouder. Wyatt made it to State last year only to wake up the morning of first competition to a positive Covid 19 test and retest and retest! Wyatt did not let that disappointment deter him. He lifted harder than ever before, last summer and trained harder than ever before in our Wrestling room. His efforts paid off with a WA State Championship Gold Medal and the Honor to be Called State Champion at his 132# Weight Class. The ugly fat guy is me convincing the referee to "look at it". A few seconds later the Referee tapped the mat signaling a pin!

The wrestlers I know work their asses off and are very disciplined as to their diet and hydration
Difficult sport for sure
Agreed. I had a couple of friends that made it all the way to state AAA way back (50+ years - ugh!), and I remember their work ethic and the devotion it took for them to get that far.

Awesome! I was in the best shape of my life on the wrestling team. I often wish I had that drive these days but I just don’t.

I’ll second those congratulations to both you and Wyatt!

I never had a chance to wrestle at that age since my small high school didn’t have a wrestling team. However, living in Pennsylvania and being a Penn State alum, I’ve come to ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ wrestling, and appreciate the total commitment it takes to be really successful in the sport.

Speaking of wrestling, a friend of mine’s brother, Mike Johnson, recently died here in PA. Mike was one of PA‘s all time best high school wrestlers. Perhaps one the best high school wrestlers ever. He was one of just 13 4-time PIAA state champions, and he was never taken down in his entire high school career. He was FAST, and perfected the duck under. His nickname was “Bobcat”. 😊

Hey flymph did you pull a muscle straining while watching the match? My parents said they were exhausted after watching me and my brothers wrestle.
Congrats on having a state champ!

Congratulations to Wyatt and the entire Oroville team. State championships are team efforts supporting individual achievements.
