Islamorada/Key Largo?

Shad

Life of the Party
It's stupid cold around here lately, and the steelhead fishing has been scarcely worth the suffering. I'm at least very close to ready to go back to the Keys (anywhere tropical, really, but getting to the Keys is cheaper and less complicated, so that's where I'm looking right now). Looking at late March-April timeframe.

Who knows who I should (try to) book for the backcountry fly fishing?

AND... if anyone else is cold, bored, and into spending a little less than $2K (the more we get, the further below that mark we get) for a fun, WARM getaway with new (or old) friends, I'm definitely open to making this a group thing. Just saying....

Water temperature is everything. Check the historical dates you are going.
For sure. Last time I was down there mid-March, we had a strong cold front blow through day one. It was actually a bit uncomfortable outside in short sleeves. That messed up the fishing for two days inshore. I'm reading that by April, MOST days should be favorable. Maybe a good reason to go mid-late April. Hmmmm....

Man, I remember some great days of tarpon fishing in February and March given the right conditions. There are some spots where the water warms up earlier than others and the tarpon know exactly where they are. From Islamorada you can also run across into the park. Call Charlie Tindall in Islamorada. You will not be sorry. If you can't find him PM me.

Islamorada is the probable home base. Seems like the best access to quality backcountry and offshore fishing, and there might be something to that whole "Sportfishing Capital" thing. I'll give Charlie a holler (or you, if I can't find him). Thanks!
