Is Anywhere Safe Anymore?

Tonight I was on my way home to unload stuff and actually made a U-turn to go to church from 5-6pm.
I was parked right under a parking lot light and when I came out of church I saw my topper lid open.
They had pried it open and rifled through my camper build. Lots of small stuff missing...the Bastards even took two snow shovels and a square point shovel. All of the windows are covered with Reflectix so they got darn lucky.
The biggy's were an Echo Base fly rod, reel, and line in a Cordura case that I kept stuffed along side my sleeping bag. Even though it was the base model it all adds up. The real pisser was that I had just bought an RC plane from a friend an hour before and they got that too.
I'm going to be out of town next Saturday night but you can bet that I would be staking out the parking lot if I wasn't.
I called Crime Check, as worthless as that is, and they said they were busy and would get back to me maybe tomorrow.
@krusty beware, this was at Assumption but someone is working your neighborhood pretty hard.

That's a real shame...dirty lowlife bastards. Thank you for the heads-up. Nowhere is safe these days. We'll keep our eyes peeled.

Sorry to hear about your experience, it is just sad. My son came to get the Thunder Jet from in front of the house this week to check it before we were to go out to the snake today, and our 3/4 of a tank of gas had been siphoned.
The grandkids came with us to church last week for the first time, we'll be there tomorrow too.

A :( for the first part and a :) for the second part.

This is a good link to have to see what's going on around you. They email me a weekly report for a 3 mile radius around my address and it definitely shows a pattern of areas being 'worked'.

Really sorry for what happened to you. All of those things do really add up. Radio controlled airplanes and radio systems are quite expensive. I hope that they're caught and your able to get your property back.

When I go fishing, I leave literally nothing visible in the car. When I say nothing, I really mean it; not even an empty plastic box. I haven't fished a lot of places that I would like to, out of fear about my car.

Hate to say it, but with the double whammy of a growing population and increasing income inequality, it's only going to get worse.

That sucks! I was in Seattle twice in the past couple weeks, and really need to take some stuff out of my car. Heading back downtown next Thursday. It's not just Seattle of course, I live and work in Redmond in a small liquor store. I've got great customers, but have seen more than a few people in my store whom I worry about. I'm considering starting to carry at work or move on from it. We had a little shoplifting, I expect more and hope I'm wrong. We have been broken into once since I've worked there.

Other shops, Bob's Lake City Liquor, have the same issues. I've seen and dealt with shoplifting for the last ten years, in all of the places I've worked and breakin's seem to be on the uptick. I don't confront shoplifters, it's not worth getting hurt and all of my employers have policies to let them take what they take.. and then record the time and any details for the police! I will call the police and they respond fast in Redmond!

Anyway, sorry for you loss! Can't be too careful out there.. cleaning my car out today and tomorrow.

Bill

It's not just that things add up, it's the violation, that queazy, sickening feeling, and then the questioning thereafter
Exactly, I slept for about three hours and then laid awake stewing and thinking I was hearing sounds outside.
I'll be repairing bent up topper latches today.

Nowhere is safe. Unfortunately a large part of the populace has decided this normal and the result of "inequity" etc and police should concentrate on road piracy efforts to generate revenue from generally law abiding folks to not enforce laws against actual crime with victims. Prosecuting real crime doesn't pay but collecting from you is profitable. Welcome to the new utopia.

Fun anecdote for those that just love my anecdotes. Got a desperate call from a desperate urban dwelling friend. He called the cops on some tweakers breaking in and stripping a car in front of his residence. Cops came and did nothing. Tweakers told him he was now targeted. Cops said he shouldn't have called and they won't intervene until they are actually in the car driving away but then they can't chase them if they choose to exceed the speed limit. He is now subject to really fun and festive nightly harassment in the form of bricks through windows, car vandalised, and various other creative things that would have driven a normal man to abnormal violence. Police will not intervene. This is how vigilantes are made. Not him though. He's going to just take it as his morality is so very high. He doesn't call the police anymore though as that's just a waste of time. I'm actually worried about him as this has persisted for weeks with no slowing and I believe will escalate as he has offered zero resistance. Like the lowly hyena testing a baby prey animal they will likely move in closer and closer. Truly the survival of the fittest Tacoma style.

A society that does not enforce its laws will beget a culture of violence and lawlessness.

^ This. I also leave my doors unlocked and, if the weather’s dry I’ll leave my windows down. I have my insurance and registration locked in a hidden safe in the car, and leave nothing worth taking in there. I’d rather they rifle through my shit and not break a window than do both. My car has a hidden fuel cutoff switch and a smart key, though, so YMMV.

You don't have to carry your registration anymore in Washington. A digital copy will suffice legally as enforcing car prowls was to difficult a concept. Modern problems in modern Washington require modern solutions. Hats off to the DMV for this change.

We had the window busted out of our SUV and stuff stolen in broad daylight on a very busy street in downtown Portland. Constant car and foot traffic, cars going 30mph, people everywhere. I guess if you gotta have that next fix you don't mind if anyone sees you funding it.

When I was looking to buy another house two of the main criteria were outside of any town and at the end of a dead end road. There were other criteria but those two were at the top of the list. Also, my property is completely fenced so I can let my dogs run free. One is a 150 pound mastiff and another is a 160 pound Pyrenees. They bark at the fence line and smile. Most anyone with a bit of intelligence won’t challenge them.

When I go to town I have nothing in my truck. I plan my trips so that any place I purchase items those purchases are made after all other business is done and I head home, not stopping with merchandise in the vehicle. Pain in the ass but I do whatever I can to prevent a break in.

This shit has been going on for a very long time. These assholes are incredibly bold (no fear of consequences because there aren't any) and their brains are fried from drugs.

I had a window broken out in broad daylight while we were at a veterinary clinic. There wasn't a damn thing in the vehicle except for one of those little Case Logic garbage bags hanging from the console bin....which they took.

"no fear of consequences because there aren't any"....... how far down this spiral of empowered lawlessness will this country go before..... before what?
