Sorta fishing-related
Yesterday in Cowlitz county, the checkout lady scanned my identification for a six pack. What little hair I have left is decidedly gray.
I don’t know what changed here, may be corporate policy for all I know.
I think it might be a corporate policy, across several chain stores the more I look, but everyone I talked to said it was a new law. Maybe insurance policy stuff who knows 🤷

Its the corporations taking the guessing game out of play and eases the stress on clerks. Also no issues with fines, or sales to underage and fake ID's.

A lil market out near Morton has required 100% I'D for many years.

Some guys look for a reason to bitch or to think the govt gives 2 shits what they drink.
They just cant accept they really aren't that important in the world.

Why would I lie about that??? It was posted on every door of every store I went to and all the checkers were bitching about it. Mandatory ID scans starting Sept 1.
I just can't find anything on the books citing a requirement by law. Strange to me because if the government wants to know if you're a heavy drinker, they can find out pretty easily already. No need for constant ID scanning or satellites.

I would actually be stoked if I could just scan my ID at the grocery store Self Check to independently buy my beer, rather than try to flag down the attendant who is nowhere to be seen, or they're helping somebody who is having their very first time ever in a grocery store, etc. I hope it will be like that, but I bet it won't.

Update, after talking to several different store I figured it out. It's a new OLCC rule. So not a 'Law' per say but everyone who wants to sell alcohol in Oregon must now scan ID or they don't get an OLCC license.

Not just Oregon. QFC and Albertsons started that as of 9/1/ (at least in Wa.)

That's weird, I just renewed my two OLCC licenses and am not required to scan anyone's ID.

Nothing mentioned in either of those about scan requirements, either.

But I'll patiently await your citation.

Interesting. This is a while ago--15 or 20 years--but in WA my understanding that if a store got busted by the LCB for underage sales, they had to scan all sales for a specified probation period. At least that's what I was told. But what you're saying makes sense. I was in a liquor store in Portland over labor day and had to hand over my license (and no one would be mistaking me under-21).

Lol, ok, got my hand on a Bible right now. I swear this testimony to be true to the best of my knowledge. The manager at a local plaid pantry told me when I asked why all of the stores are now scanning cards no matter what age you look she said it was because of their olcc license and a new requirement. Same when I asked at a local fred Meyer, all these stores have posted signs stating they now require ID scans as of whatever date. So I'll turn this investigation over to you. I really don't know what your fucking problem is? Do you want to prove me wrong that bad? Here you go. I am wrong, I have no idea what I'm talking about, I am an expert in nothing.

Wow don't get so upset. There's what you said. There's anothers experience that is different from that, and there is the truth of the matter that would actually be valuable to nail down. You don't get there without curiosity and asking questions.
It is rather curious that Freddies started doing this on both sides of the river at the same time.

Well there's that, and being a smart ass about it..... ''But I'll patiently await your citation.'' I'm just relaying my experience. I'm not Baghdad Bob.

Brewery/Pub.

Look, if you make a statement that might be prudent to someone in a particular position to be concerned by saying that there is some new LAW or REGULATION or REQUIREMENT but it sounds like BS, and turns out to actually be BS, you deserve to get called out on it.

Or you can back up what you are saying isn't BS by simply showing us the publicly stated documentation supporting your "claim". But it is BS, nothing more.

I don't care what your local shop owners SAY. Sounds to me like they are too lazy to look into it, thus, they give up their protections. And that's fine for them, but not me.

I called my local OLCC county rep, and they nearly laughed me off the phone.

So, for those still reading, it is NOT an OREGON LIQUOR AND CANNABIS COMMISSION REQUIREMENT for anyone selling alcohol to scan anyone's ID, no matter how old they are or what they look like.

I am not trying to be argumentative, I am setting the record straight against the all-too-common misinformation that people who are not even relatively in the know, for some reason or another, actually believe because of what other people tell them.

So sayeth you. The internet is rife with misinformation! How do we know yours isn't some? See how that works?
And who the fuck cares? If they ask for your ID and you don't want to give it, then don't. Buy your shit somewhere else...

You don't have to be an ass about it is all I'm saying and I never said it was fact, it's what I heard from a friend who heard it from a friend, doesn't matter anymore, I was just commenting on privacy issues with phones and tracking and everythingelse in our lives, but it's gone way past I phone 14 and I don't care anymore 🤘
