People don't realize in the wild we are just bait.
Note that this happened in southern Chile, closer to Antarctica than Mexico and both father and son are reported to be Venezuelans. Having said that, there are several recent similar cases of humpbacks briefly swallowing divers, kayakers, etc. A change of underwear and flushing of the dry suit was most likely in order for the younger kayaker, the father was amazingly calm all things considered! Other than potential trauma of interacting with such a large animal there is no risk of actually being swallowed since humpback whales esophagus are actually prety small (slighly larged than a foot in diameter) since their diet is mainly small fish, krill, etc. At least some of the incidents have happened when people approach areas where humpbacks are bubblenet fishing.I reckon this whale didn't like Mexican food
