True?
I never met him, but have sure heard and read some stories. One of a few guys I would have enjoyed pitchers with.

I'm about as traditional as you can get, but I have two eggs (over easy), homemade jam on my toast, and coffee black, thank you.
I'm with ya there, I have the same as you every morning. Eating that much bacon ay my age isn't a very smart idea. As far as the gun goes, never had one and not planning to get one

Legendary salmon angler Bill Schaadt had a similar fly for similar use he called the gilette fly because the soldered razors onto the hooks.
Yes! There’s a chapter on him in Trey Combs book that talks about it. I think he used it in the Eel or one of the other Nor Cal rivers if someone was trying to play a foul hooked fish instead of breaking it off.

Russell Chatham, a maniacal angler if there ever was one, wrote about being in awe of Mr Schaadt’s ability to fish anywhere, anytime, under any circumstances in pursuit of his fish of choice for the day. I’ll have to go back and read the chapter again, but I believe it was Mr Schaadt’s pursuit of 50# Kings, back when they were common and scaling cliffs, hanging by an outcrop, and putting his fly exactly where he needed it. Hurdles be damned.
Back to the library.
