How I beat the heat

The thermo said it was hot on the highway to and from, but other than some alternating warm breezes amidst the cool ones, I didn’t notice. The trout were cold to the touch and firm and not suicidal for dries just yet. I found some extra action on a sunken unweighted ant beneath a size 12 stimulator. But the good ol’ stimmy got the fish-o-the-day.

Yeah, let those damn kids burn up in the heat, dad’s going creekin’!
Not only did Dad fill up the splash mat (even though I had already inflated the pool), but a few months ago Daddy also paid for a fancy new heat pump to be installed which is pumping the heat out of our old house pretty damn well. Besides, I invited them but they said it was “too long of a car ride.” !!

Hell yeah. Good job dad. We've yet to go the heat pump direction. Our 100 year old home is feeling it.

I dragged mine alone, but the mist off this waterfall helped.

I didn’t exactly want to spend $$$$ but when the old gas furnace was trying to kill us by spewing 30X the “acceptable” limit of carbon monoxide, I felt a little more motivated. All in all I have to say I am really enjoying it. (104-year old home)

Did you get your fly back from that gnarly snag? 😁

Yikes. Yeah everyone that has them swears by them. Sorry for the thread drift!

Ha! I landed it, but no net, and hectic situation (another 100’ waterfall below), so it get released real quick.

We installed a heat pump a couple years ago. We replaced an oil furnace.

Coastal and westslope in the same creek? Cool! I read some info the other day in an Enos Bradner book about westslope high lake stocking on the westside of the cascades back in the day and then they changed to the native range coastals. There used to be a very good lake with large westslopes around Darrington apparently until they changed to coastals and for whatever reason the westslopes were able to get much larger and the fishery is no longer that popular. Not trying to snuff out your spot but was this below a high lake at all?

Beautiful environment
Gorgeous water
Way cool pictures
Wet wading at its finest

Can't get any better than that!

OMJ fished that water, the F*** river was one of his haunts I believe. Please excuse the language and anonymity
Indeed he did but that F water is currently closed (grrr) and these pics are not from there. Looks similar in places though, I’ll give you that. This drainage is a bit smaller.
OMJ talked about fishing from bridge to bridge on a branch of that F water actually. With his brother. Some crazy shit happened, I can’t remember what, but in my mind I’m gonna say it was—He filled his waders with water and dried them out and took a nap while they dried in the sun. It sure felt good laying on those warm rocks.
