Hot new lake fly 😁

People are making jokes but this is actually a really good idea and extremely innovative.

I'm thinking of tying up something similar for bass which have funny tendencies. They will absolutely destroy a popper but also love gulping a slow sinking object and shy away if it moves aggressive. I mean what exactly does a senko represent?

Now how to sprinkle in some pepper gold flakes?

It's the Reverse Spider of soft plastics. All the movement, none of the bulk. And I think you could throw em on an 8wt

Yup. Something that freakish looking is easy to poke fun at, but also looks effective as hell. Worse, it's giving me some aesthetically offensive tying ideas.
 
A decade-plus ago I tied some “thunder eggs” with rubber legs sticking out and I bobber fly fished them for winter steelhead, but I never caught anything with them. The pattern wouldn’t necessarily be the first thing I would blame for me not catching steelhead, though.
 
Those big rainbows that followed the fly were males sent by their wives to chase and kill it. 😉

That fly looks like it would be great for Puget Sound. It would be relatively easy to cast, wouldn't catch too much wind, sinks fast, and kind of imitates crabs and other strange looking critters you find there.
 
I gave up on “tradition” before I ever started fly fishing. Does it look like food? If a fish thinks so, I don’t care what I’m fishing on the end of my line.

I put up a post about a material called FNF Creeper a while back. It's basically a woven strand of fritz and rubber legs. Makes for some cool-looking bass flies, but I have yet to catch a bass on anything I have tied with it. It's quite buoyant, so maybe it needs to be fished off a sinking line, sort of like a booby, to be effective. Anyway, if you want to experiment, that stuff might be worth a look.
