Planning a two week road trip with Sister Sue in September, I was looking at the 15 day weather report for various areas. The prognosis isn't good until around the 8th or 9th. Weather for Spokane starting on Saturday the 30th of August shows 9 consecutive days of temps 90 and over with 3 days of 100 to 101! The average temp for this time of year is around 78 degrees. This delays the recovery of lakes even more and shortens the already truncated season created by a hot summer. No rain is in sight and those cool crisp evenings camped by a stream or lake are just a dream for now. Damn!!

It’s usually a bit cooler in the mountains. Down by the river, the ridges shorten the length of time of direct sunlight, the cool water helps create a cooler microclimate by the river, and if you go up in elevation that can help too. I think you should go. I bet the evenings will be stellar if you pick the right spot.
