Hit a local tonight

I've been WAY too busy with work the last few weeks. And the social calendar has been a bit busy as well. Mostly fun stuff, just busy.
Finally had a chance to do a little fishing tonight! I decided to hit a local lake that I've never fished before. It's only 20 minutes from my house. There's a story there, but for another time.

Started out with some crappie or sunfish not quite committing to the frog popper. So what the heck, did a little popper/dropper action to see if I could confirm the shy species. The toughest tippet I had on me besides 10# Max was some 4x. On went 16" of 4x and a #12 Black BMW hanging off the popper. Bang! 2nd cast. Crappie love that thing.

Nothing too big though. The next couple fish were 9" baby bass, also on the BMW.

After a couple more crappie I got a couple more bass. This time 10 & 11". Going the right direction. Really nice looking healthy fish.

Not more than 5' from where I pulled those 2 out, this big guy sucked the froginator down. I literally heard the sucking sound.

Probably the longest bass I've caught in western Washington, but also the skinniest. It's a small lake with lots of frogs and crappie so not sure why it's so skinny. The water quality isn't great so it might be on the way out. Not sure.
It sure gave my 7wt and 10# fluoro all it could handle though! I was glad it killed the frog and not the BMW on the 4x. That would've been game over. I mean, look at that prop!

Another shot of the gnarly dude.

Really would've liked to tussle with him at his regular healthy build.

I caught 7 or 8 more crappie and a couple more baby bass and then the weather hit. I put the rod away and started rowing for the launch. Never got lightning, but it looked possible. No thanks!

The rain gave me this though!

The weather also made for a dramatic sunset as I entered the jungle to the launch.

And some of the jungle is actually in the water. This crap was all over my Commander, my waders, boots, fins, oars...everywhere! I spent about 20 minutes hosing everything down when I got home. Guess there was a price for the big boy.

And this rad cat was hunting frogs! It just missed one when I first saw it. It wasn't afraid of me at all. I was a rod length's away in this pic at the launch. There are some houses close by. He seemed used to people.

Pretty cool little adventure that hit the spot. Felt good to get out even if just for a couple hours!
