That is how the call started today from my wife.

She drives out of the driveway today, and 3 minutes later she calls and said... "Hey honey there is a plane on our road and you need to come help him!"

Jump in the truck, run up the road... there it sits. All is good, pilot is shaken (not his first time actually 3rd) but ok and plane is fine except the engine isn't working. He was able to fly it under 2 rows of power lines and keep it between the tree lines road. So, I ask how can I help and he says is there someplace you can tow it until tomorrow. I call another neighbor with a wide driveway and area to park, yup and then I start towing half mile at 3 mph.

It's not every day is get to help tie an airplane, a first for me! Just glad he was OK!!

Just another boring day in the life...

Just out of college in 1992 I went flying with my buddy and his brother who was fresh out of the Marines and got his pilots license. Had a great flight out of Ontario OR and flew through the Owyhee badlands etc. Great time. Later that night we went by the Elks lodge to see their dad and some others. His uncle came by and said "I heard you boys went flying with Steven." Yep, had a great time. He said something along the lines as "we'll see what kind of pilot he is after he crashes a few times." I was a little shocked by that and after he walked away I asked WTF? It was explained to me that he was a pilot in Vietnam and had been a crop duster for decades and had a lot of "crash landings." Sometimes the motor doesn't work. :)

That was some good piloting! And there's a reason there are long stretches of straight roads on the interstates! He used a few lives dodging power lines and trees! Glad it worked out for him and you guys who live in the area!

Awesome story Shawn
Looked like you had a small traffic jam while towing the plane.
Hope to see you in October with Steve to shake your hand and thank you for convincing WDFW to extend Mineral 2026 fishing season.
