Heart break hotel (stories of despair)

The increase in misspelling of "lose" as "loose" may overtake my annoyance of misused apostrophes.
Always been there, don’t think it’s on the increase. The difference is in your brain.

Yesterday in a parent teacher conference I noticed one of my kid’s teachers had written feedback about “hire” numbers. Then we saw they were working on “there/their/they’re” etc.! And my kid had nailed it. I didn’t say squat.

Oh @Evan B don't EVER go into the Kentridge High School gym in Kent Washington. The championship banners are a complete mess-
Girls Basketball
Boy's Basketball
Girls' Track
Boys' Track

I really don't care which one is used in this case, but be consistent! Educating our youth on more than just grammar I guess. :ROFLMAO:

I do a lot of editing... back to fish.
I don't remember or really fret too long about a good battle that ended with a LDR or even a popoff off at my feet. Maybe because I got to fight it, maybe see it, but wasn't planning to eat it? The ones I remember are the sudden subsurface grabs, rod quickly bends to the cork, then pops out before I can react and I never see the grab or the fish.

Here's the first that comes to mind: early 1980s, Chena River, AK. I am on a Fall business trip. I flew up from Seattle and brought along a Fenwick 8' 6 weight pack rod and some gear rod in my carry-on for dirtbagging. After finishing the job, I got a hotel room near the airport to fly out the next morning and a quick bite to eat. I drove for 15 min or so and found a sign that said Chena River with a dirt road turn off of the highway. There was nothing around. The river was pretty small with a slow current where I was and the water's surface was just full of fallen leaves. The water was darkly stained from tannens. I think I was fishing a wet fly with a floating line and often the fly ends up floating on a leaf and I have to recast. Losts of casting but nothing. *It's still light outside* but I am oblivious to the time. Awhile into it the fly lands between the leaves 45° upstream and I'm getting a good drift. When the fly is directly in front of me on the bank, my 6 weight rod suddenly bends to the cork! Before I can react out pops the fly and it's flying through the air from the tension being released. I never see the fish. Some more casts and nothing. *I looked at my watch and it was almost midnight*. I have an 0800 flight (oops!).
That memory lingers.

Years ago (more than 50) my family was on a camping road trip in our Ford station wagon. My dad had towed our aluminum boat with a 4hp Merc. I remember we were in BC, and had traveled down a dirt road FOREVER to get to the campground which was next to a maybe 6 acre lake. Tall fir trees all around, I remember how beautiful the setting was. My younger brother and I went fishing and we trolled cow bells, long flashy hardware followed by maybe a Mepps spinner or something.
Before too long something slammed my rod and started peeling off line. We cut the motor and I, at maybe 12 years old, tried to play the fish. I saw color a couple times but made little progress in tiring or landing the fish. Decided to tighten up the drag a little and bang! the fish was gone. I was kinda spooked actually. I'd never caught anything over maybe 15" and this thing was way bigger than that.
I decided to call it a day and still feel bad for that fish trailing all that freaking hardware after he broke off.
