I think OMJ would love reading all of these comments. Wondered about @flybill . I don’t see him here. I think they were close too. I imagine Chris Scoones might want to know too. I have his phone number but don’t think i should be the one to use it.

I only had a couple of interactions with OMJ, but he reminded me of one of my uncles – gruff at times but funny, and a generous person at heart. He shared his humor and his knowledge with us (from a general standpoint in public, and it seems that in private he was quite open with sharing specific locations). He really added to the character of the two sites. I was always impressed that despite giving the impression that he was set in his ways, he embraced the internet and managed to navigate change much more readily than many people (of all ages). Would have liked to have fished a blue line with him....

Finally someone can pass his post count on the old forum. 
Loved that guy. I’m too young to get away with it, but I’d be happy to take over the role of not suffering fools, while also clearly understanding that I’m one of them. That to me was one of his greatest talents, in one breath he could without hubris put someone in their place and then in the next act the fool with complete acceptance of it.

Tim, thank you for this! I had heard OMJ tell the story many times but i had never read the thread. Nice to see how Chris appreciated him on the old forum. Hilarious and so clever. Edited to add: OMJ still has the highest number of messages over there with 35K . Also @Tim Lockhart your post on this thread is pretty funny too.I remember 10,000 like it was yesterday...

RIP Jim. Like most here we never met in person but you were someone whose presence on here I always valued and enjoyed.
I thought about trying to find you in Butte on one of my MT trips and seeing if you’d go fishing with us. But you’d probably have just yelled at me to get off your porch.
I don’t have access to search the old site, but there was a post Jim put up once about all the people in this community that had helped him, sending him flies and lines, etc… it was kind of a sweet post and was a departure from his typical curmudgeonly ones. I remember reading it at the time and wondering if he was dying and it was his way of saying goodbye. But no, he carried on with us for several more years! He was just being nice.
I hope someone can send Jim’s family the link to this thread, I think they might like reading it and seeing how liked he was and how many lives he touched.
