If it was his time, I hope he was fishing a skinny blue line on the first nice Montana Spring day.
 
Old Man has been around the fishing boards since the internet was invented. I never got to meet him IRL but we had fished alot of the same haunts. The guy lived and breathed skinny water trout. He is a legend and it won't be the same without him if he is gone. I hate assuming anything, I hope somebody can track down his status

I looked up Old Man on Facebook. I was able to track down someone who I thought might be a family member and messaged them yesterday. I did get a message back from his daughter this morning that unfortunately he passed away February 23, 2023.

I never had much interaction with Old Man, but man I've been reading and enjoying his posts going back a couple decades on the old forum. A legend and a huge loss. RIP Old Man I'm sure you're on a world class little blue line somewhere.

Thank you so much for figuring this out. Even though i was pretty sure he was gone, having it confirmed still kind of hits hard.

He was salty - in a good way. A few years ago I offered to take him to some really good skinny water near our MT fishing property (~ an hour from Butte). I even offered to drive over to Butte, pick him up, drive him to the creek, help him get into some fish, then drive him back to his house. Nope. He just said he wasn’t feeling up to it. I’m bummed because I never had the chance to meet him in person and see if I could get him into some fishing that would have resulted in him posting an upbeat fishing report ;)

Thanks for digging this out and letting us know. Old Man Jim - gone. He bitched me out once for not looking him up when I drove through Dillon, we later had a good laugh about it. I appreciated his curmudgeonly ways, a mentor to my own curmudgeonly ways. RIP Jim.
 
Jim was quite the character. He will be missed. His avatar looks to be a spot in the Deer Lodge Valley I told him how to get to when he first moved to Butte. May he rest in peace.
