NFR $$ Haircuts $$

Non-fishing related
While I was married, my former Bride cut my hair. From the mid nineties until early 2013, my haircuts equaled the cost of replacement razor blades. I bought an electric head shaver & 3 replacement heads for $38 when I retired. The shaver & last of the replacement heads are still going strong, so over the last 12 years, my haircuts have set me back $3 per year. Slick! (pun intended )

I've had the same person for about.....23 years? She's raised her prices for everyone else, but I'm special Still $20 + tip.

With the senior discount, $12 but I give a $5 tip. No appointments.

~$27 after tip.

I mean, how much do I spend on fishing shit per year? I figure spending a little for a decent cut 4-5 times per year is a damn bargain.

$30 for quarterly hair cut, beard trim, and "clean-up" (who knew your ears would grow so much hair;)). And a $10 tip. No appointment. I may need to wait 15 minutes before a chair opens. Island Barbershop on Harrison Ave. NW, Olympia (near the renamed Watson's Greenhouse, formerly Bark and Garden).

For those of us who have become follically challenged it costs more. They do a spray on that intertwines with the few hairs you have. Gives you a false good look. Cost about 90-110 bucks but includes a neck shave too. Problem is you can’t shower for a week and no shampoo for three weeks until next time before next appointment. I started wearing a ball cap. I wanted to buy fly fishing gear instead. 🤣

I was just kidding…. But some do pay that and more for their parts, shaves, and weaves. Never been in that crowd. In my younger days when I had hair and wanted it short I did crew/flat top/and trim for 10-15 back then. When playing ball I usually went very short … just nicer. With helmet wear and cooling down.

I got so sick of the chain stores. Need an appointment. Crappy cuts, etc. What's your phone number? What's your physical and email address ? NUNYA!!! They don't get my business anymore.

Found a guy in west Fed. Way. $75 plus tip 4 times a year. Hair, beard, eyebrows and ears.

Came out here. Shop 8 buildings away, $25.00 for all of it. By appointment but has standing room only 5 days a week.

I like to get my haircut once a year..whether it needs it or not. In my small, island town, Gidget always gets my business. She charges $30 but I always tip her well, after all it's only once a year. She's been here forever..and she has this hand held massage thingy she uses (after the haircut) on my neck and upper back. Getting a haircut from her is a far different experience than going to Supercuts. "Gidgets" in Anacortes..hard to beat that barber shop.

Usually free, wife's friend cuts it. Last 3 I took the boys to Antonio's, 4 or 5 on the sides, scissors on top, $25 + $5.

Around age 14, when kids were so self conscious about their looks, my hair was “okay”, just a tad over the tops of my ears. Like The Beatles. I went to a new barber who I was told does just what you want. I told him I just wanted a tiny trim. He said, “Don you-a worry, I make-a look-a nice-a.” First couple of passes take most of my hair right off. Skincut! In shock, I almost skipped school the next day. I was late for first class, so everyone was already in their seats when I walked in. The class bully shouts out, “Hey! shithead got a haircut! Haw haw!”

After that, I cut my own hair for about the next 10 years. I still do, except for a cleanup every few months at a great barber. Senior’s cut was $15 for years, just went up to $18. All the other barbers in town do those trendy “fashion” cuts and charge $35-50. And they have bad music.

I am paying $25 plus tip. It's salon run out of woman's house a friend of mine referred me to. I go about every six weeks. It is by appointment only and on occasion will call to see if I want to come in sooner if she gets a cancellation.

My wife cuts my hair. When I first met her and wanted to get to know her, her friend told me she cuts hair. So I asked her to cut my hair, which was halfway down my back then.

She asked me how I wanted it cut and I said "I want you to make it look good to you." I've had short hair every since and it's been almost 25 years.

How much do you guys pay for a haircut?

I may need to reset my expectations in this regard. My regular hair gal had to raises her price for a man's haircut from $25 to $30 a few months ago. I was trying to get an appointment before next Friday, and the earliest she could do was the end of the following week, when I'll be gone fishing again. So I decided to look around locally and see if anyone had time to take a "walk in" customer. Found one, took all of 10 minutes since my hair is so thin on top. I was surprised if not startled, that the price was $37. And that's before a tip. Which brings up another question - do you tip the person who cuts your hair? I didn't even know this was a thing until about 10 or so years ago.

A news woman on the radio said the price of her haircuts had gone up to $87, which was a surprise to her. But women's haircuts are more complex and women tend to be more fastidious about their hair than most men. Maybe I just needed a reset to adjust for inflation. I remember when I was a teenager and haircuts were still $2.
Time to go retro sixties. Ponytail and hair ties are way cheaper.

Prescott, AZ has a "beauty school" that charges seniors $8 on Wed. and Friday. Been going for a few years now and never had a bad cut. My better half and a girlfriend convinced her husband and I to get pedicures last Friday. $14 and now my feet don't grab the carpet like I'm wearing velcro socks!

Mine was well past my shoulders when I met my wife. When I got my survey job here in '92 Paul basically said "We're going to hire you, but you probably want to get a haircut. And those city shoes won't work, got a pair of boots?"

Renon's beauty school at 145th and Lake City way was our go to in high school, they were good. I've let the kids at WWCC cut it a couple times. Last time we left we took the boys down to Antonio's barber shop the next day to fix their cuts, just awful. We've been paying since.
