How much do you guys pay for a haircut?

I may need to reset my expectations in this regard. My regular hair gal had to raises her price for a man's haircut from $25 to $30 a few months ago. I was trying to get an appointment before next Friday, and the earliest she could do was the end of the following week, when I'll be gone fishing again. So I decided to look around locally and see if anyone had time to take a "walk in" customer. Found one, took all of 10 minutes since my hair is so thin on top. I was surprised if not startled, that the price was $37. And that's before a tip. Which brings up another question - do you tip the person who cuts your hair? I didn't even know this was a thing until about 10 or so years ago.

A news woman on the radio said the price of her haircuts had gone up to $87, which was a surprise to her. But women's haircuts are more complex and women tend to be more fastidious about their hair than most men. Maybe I just needed a reset to adjust for inflation. I remember when I was a teenager and haircuts were still $2.

23.00 before tip
And yes Salmo, you tip your regular haircut person.
Much like a lawn, I look forward to the day when my hair goes dormant.
😁

$30 maybe $35 for barber cut.

Or the free version:

$26 + tip for my last one.
SF

$60, I have longer hair. I've tried the big box places and local barbershops around me and end up looking like Lord Farquaad so I pay more and get a cut every 3-4 months.

Spot I like is $65 for fade + beard trim with straight razor. Plus tip.

I've been cutting my own, since covid shut down the barbershops. My skill level has improved greatly since my first attempt.

Pro tip: Always check to make sure the length guide is attached to the clipper before starting.
(I thought it seemed like an unusual amount of hair was coming off.... )

Very much free. My wife....she earns her pay.
Every third Sunday she spends about 10 minutes.

I spent about $75 five years ago to buy a decent professional-grade trimmer body, then let my wife practice all her old 4-H animal-shearing skills on my dome twice a year for the biannual de-wookiee-fication.

Free since early 90's when I moved to my current house.

Free

The cut is one thing. The real money maker is the color. The grey gals have to get it touched up every 3-6 weeks or it looks bad.

I am surprised at the number of other guys who get a free haircut.
I married a beautician/barber 53 years ago.
While my haircuts are monetarily free, I pay in other aspects. :p

Since September of 1967 I have had 2 store bought haircuts-one in Alaska when I was a Toyota mechanic for the summer and the other in the '80's when my wife had knee surgery. These days I cut my own hair with some decent clippers.

You might be surprised to hear that George Clooney cuts his own hair also.

Now if they were adding hair I would be willing to pay! But to take it off? Nah.....

$20.00 plus tip at a "beauty" shop (beauty and Buzzy are not synonyms). Decided to try a no-appointment barber. $25.00 (plus tip) looked like I was back in boot camp, so back to Bethany.
