Garter snake fishing and scoring

I've you ever been wading across a stream and seen a "stick" poking up in the middle of it only to have the the stick disappear as you're wading in that general direction, only to have it reappear....and then you realize the "stick" is a garter snake that's anchored itself to the bottom with its tail and is periodically coming up for air while it hunts mid-stream. It's an experience.

Counted somewhere between a gazillion and a gazillion and a half of these guys in the pond:

Also found a bunch of these, some sort of larvae, but know idea what. They extend a long protuberance, a feeding tube I suspect, into the algae:

Crappy shot of the protuberance:

This one was cold. Tucked it's head between the rocks. "If I can't see you, you can't see me". There were several quicker ones along here as well.

Swamp thangs. Western Painted Turtle and bonus non-native coypu. This was a long telephoto shot and I didn't know the nutria was there until I downloaded the photo at home. The turtle is about the size of half a basketball. Western Painteds can live over 50 years in the wild.
