May just be the way the sun is hitting the wings, but that orange coloring made me think possible red-shafted/yellow shafted Flicker cross.

This super bummed me out. I was just trying to keep the dang rats off the last of the tomatoes. Pulled the trap after finding this.

I picked up a couple humane rat traps and also had to stop using them out in the open cuz so far I’ve caught 3 squirrels, 2 small birds, and only one rat.

Did you know squirrels growl?? It’s kinda freaky deaky

No pics but recent local saltwater sightings show that migrants are moving.
American widgeon have arrived.
White winged scoters came in earlier this week.
Harlequin male/female at a local Normandy Park beach.
More should be on the way.

Highly doubt I would’ve seen this barred owl if it hadn’t nearly crapped on me. It gave me the very stern owl look.

I see more owls in October than any other month near our place...Not sure why

Hiked Scott Mountain last week and saw this guy in a dead tree as we approached the end of the hike. Pulled out my phone to take a pic but was too slow. It took off and landed closer. I took a quick shot but couldn't really see it in the pic. Barely got it in frame - drastic crop job



Then it flew even closer to a dead snag and was really checking me out.



Some gray jays around the van the morning before the hike too. Almost got one to land on my hand without even putting food out.

Was exploring last Saturday and saw a guy with a tripod set up by a rock and he was baiting them to get picks. Had a photography business jacket on - pretty lame IMHO.
