Not a golfer myself but an avid sports news follower and reader.
Seems like lots of drama regarding the PGA and the new LIV tournament. New articles popping up every day regarding who is playing, who resigned their PGA membership, commentary on the Saudi government etc.
Just curious what avid golfers here think regarding this.

Honestly, a bit of an over-hyped yawn ...

To me, it is normal for an employee (golfer) to be able to choose which company they work for (PGA or LIV.) Each company has different benefits to offer to their employees - let each employee choose ...

Just two hypocrite companies virtue signaling. LIV sponsored by Saudis... PGA with their PGA China tour.

Golf!! I'd rather stick hot pins in my eyes than watch golf. Although I tried it twice and there was a beer drinking part of it that I could learn to accept.

It appears we had a similar golf careers.
Besides liking the beer, I do recall the cart catching air.

Agreed with the comments on competition. Much like USFL in football, WHA in hockey and such. Maybe make the PGA pull its head out of its rear end.

Not really golf related, just anti-Saudi sentiment on my part. For the life of me I do not understand why they are our "allies." They've been nothing but a pain in the ass for at least the last 50 years. Have they done even one thing in return for the US?

The way I see it....LIV is working at putting PGA Tour outa business. The governing bodies of the game USGA and R&A are not involved, really. EuroTour won't piss off the Saudis by standing up, PGA will wring their hands and watch their players leave for "greener" pastures and f@#%ng obscene money. LIV will eventually prevail. Then what. If you're a pro, you probably care. If not, I kinda wonder if you should care how much money anybody makes. Though if you're from the southeast, you're gonna lose the Greater Greensboro Open and such.....

Just an aside, the LIV format seems stupid to me....shotgun starts and contrived "teams". Maybe they'll get cheerleaders like the NFL...and have to wear clean socks. I'll bet that format doesn't work very long.

If you want to put drama into it, put a minimum guaranteed appearance fee, and the rest of the cash goes to the winner in a match play tournament.

Because your elected rulers and industry cronies are making a shit ton of money with them. Plus they let us keep our sand toys there just in case we need to battle for the planet of Dune while cloaked in some American values message like "democracy" while we use the Saudi Arabia like a garage as they chop up journalists and basically not espouse any type of congruent democratic values. The sand planet is a complicated place but money is simple and so is selling out one's principals seeking it.

... as far as the golf, I can think of no less compelling figure than the whiner who is Phil M, good riddance if he is gone. Whined and threatened to move out of the country because of taxes (stayed), moved out of CA, whining ... what having trouble putting groceries on the table, Phil? Now it comes to pass he lost millions gambling. I should feel sorry for this guy, or any guy making millions smacking a small white ball around an exclusive country club? Not in this life.

cheers

Sold us a SHITLOAD of oil. Same reason we continue to hold our noses and call them "allies."

I've long thought the best argument for alternative energy is the trove of horrible shit we do and allow others to do to keep the black gold flowing. The world's fortunes, economies, and moral standards are all constrained by the global oil market. Until that changes, the dictators running the countries most of the oil comes from will continue to operate with impunity.

I think you're being a little hard on Canada.

Yeah, but I read that we buy more oil from Mexico than Saudi Arabia. We really don't need S.A., but maybe S.A. is more important as a global player in oil supply.

Not everything is as it seems on Arakis.
