Furled leader for nymphing?

I won a club raffle for a Cutthroat 3 pack of furled leaders and some Otter Butter dressing.

I am rigging up my Lami s-glass rod with a dry fly leader...no problem there.

What about the nymph leader? Anyone use anything like this? It's 4 feet long with a bright orange butt and olive tip with tippet ring. I'll add fluoro tippet, but do I use a bobber too? Or do I just fish it commando/no indicator?

Hmmm

Was trying to figure out why you would use a furled leader for nymphing, what would be the advantage - came across this (2:27 - no business in nymph fishing - don't turn over split shot or bobbers, I mean strike indicators)

No reason you couldn't. I own a bunch of bamboo rods, but use them for dries or a dry and a dropper!

If you had one made of florocarbon it would sink and regardless you could nymph with it! Or just a standard furled leader and some flies with some weight or additional weight in your setup.

Put a smallish swivel on it and it would prevent twisting in the presentation. Personal choice and others may have more insight than me.

Have fun!

Yes. And I quickly threw it away for that purpose. For all my BOBBER stuff, I tie my own leaders cause they just work waaaaay better.

No, they are fucking BOBBERS. That's what they are. I use em. Hell, used one today...a small red/white Oros bobber for trouts....worked great!

Don't you mean "for all my BOBBER stuff..." 😝

Furled leaders are good for dry fly and streamer fishing, but for nymphing (especially with a bobber), I tie my own leaders. Gives you a lot of control over your tapers, which is helpful in balancing your leaders so they cast better (a relative measure) with indicators. Most indicators won't work well with furled leaders (they either won't fit or will badly kink your furled leader).

Check out "pa woods and water" on youtube. He uses the Cutthroat nymphing leader almost exclusively and has a couple of videos explaining his setup. And he doesn't use an indicator.

All good stuff. Thanks for the advice everyone.

I did try the dry fly leader yesterday and it worked "OK". I got my first dry fly fish of the year (even if it was tiny)
