Flipped a raft on the Yakima

Pianoman

Just Hatched
We flipped a raft upstream from the thorp bridge and hope someone found and can help with the following: These I can remember. And they were floating
One aluminum drybox
One Igloo Cube cooler
Three large waterproof fly boxes fully stocked.
One 9 ft Sawyer oar.
Several smaller fly boxes
Ziplock bags With floatant
Asst tackle, thingamabobbers, leaders, etc…
One Sage discovery Flyrod 5 wt. with a fighting butt
Wallets and phones.
Thanks to all

Thats a bummer , important thing is you guys are okay. Had a friend flip over his fishing kayak in a lake in about 60 foot of water ,pretty much all was lost , motor ,battery etc . I feel your pain , as I witnessed the friend flipping the kayak .

Hmm. We floated Teanaway to Thorp yesterday. And in fact, we DID stop and recover a blue cube cooler (no lid) from a back eddy just up from the last takeout.
Sorry - didn't see anything else!
DM me if you want our guide's name - he has it, unless he chucked it.

Like others, sorry to hear that but am glad you are okay.

Can you describe what happened for the forum? If there's a learning experience that may prevent this from happening to someone else, that would be helpful. If nothing else, it is a great reminder to respect the river.

Yes, this, well said. We all make mistakes and it’s good to have reminders to stay vigilant. @Pianoman I’m glad you’re not hurt and hope you get some stuff back and wonder if you can maybe sing us a song about what went wrong because there but for the grace of God go I.

Glad all are okay. Bummer about the stuff, hopefully some if it turns up.

Would love to hear the story. As others have noted, could be useful learning for folks.

I'm happy to hear you were all OK as well, sorry about your stuff.
Many folks on here have had close calls/mishaps and share them as learning experiences. I took my big swim while wading a couple winters ago, thought for sure that was it. Others have shared float tube mishaps. I bet "it just happened so fast" will be in the story somehow.

Happy to share how it happened if someone can learn from this.
Anchored up in a small slow shallow area with 3 others. We all got out for a bathroom break. I was in the brush and when I returned all I saw was my boat upside down on a small log jam with one person hanging on. The three had jumped in the boat while I was relieving myself and that pulled the boat off anchor. No one was in the rowing seat and no one else knew how to row. That is the short story.

Lessons learned;
Wear your PFD.
Don’t get in my boat until I’m there.
Keep a spare oar for emergencies (thank God we had one)
Thanks for everyone’s help keeping an eye out for our gear

You might check in with area fly shops - they might have ears on gear found.

I let our guide know about the gear and he was going to spread the word and keep an eye out for it. I let Pianoman know via FB

Glad you're ok. Things can go wrong so quick on a river, even the most experienced (myself included) have had some mistakes. If you live through them then you'll have an experience you can grow with.

Again glad you're ok. Gear you can replace, life you can't.
