First smallies of the year

Fished for smallies this morning with @jasmillo on my boat first time this year.
We found a decent number of them but most were truly smallies, think it’s still too early for the biggins to come to the shallow.
Not sure what the optimal temp range is for them but water temps ranged from 57
to 60 F, warmer on the shallower areas.

One little largemouth in the mix.

So.
It was Kfish’s boat but jasmillo jumped on the pre-emptive trip report post. I don’t know, I’ll give you both a Like but I gotta give the bump to Kfish’s thread here given the thread snakeage boldly attempted by jasmillo, but quickly countered here by Kfish. Poor guy had to clean his boat up after jasmillo spilled his kale chips all over and had to start his own thread 20 minutes later than Mr. Chips!

Poor guy had me in the front of the boat getting first cast at all the juicy spots first and then I turn around and post a trip report first as well. What a shitty fishing partner I am 🤣.

All kidding aside. Is there protocol for who should post a trip report first? The owner of the boat, the person who made the plans? I always assumed it was the person who hit the shitter first when they got home…

I assumed you two discussed this as part of making plans but clearly I was mistaken. Like, okay meet me at the boat ramp at 0500, bring the teriyaki kale chips and it’s my turn to post the report.

All kidding aside for all the times Lou and I have fished together, we have never once had a discussion around who gets to post a report. Thank god for that..ha.

I like to think of the dynamic is more like maybe after Dale and Brennan do Karate in the Garage and before they blew everyone away at the Catalina Wine Mixer, they're both doing their thing, but together, united in awesome, one of the muttering "boats and hos" and the other nodding along saying "boats and hos" in agreement (or in answer to a perceived question) as they land another fish

This was a one off.

I normally check before I post a report to see if Jason had already post one, if so then I’d reply and add my part.
But alas, the shitty cell reception inside Issaquah Costco was so bad I didn’t see Jason’s post before I made mine.

Picture me in Costco swerving the cart around with my elbows just following my wife blindly and typing my report at the same time. Waited forever for pics of my beautiful bass to upload, hit post only to find out it was redundant 🤣

By the way, Issaquah Costco had amberjack collars and I had to give it a try, never had AJ before. Grilled, it was delicious!

We couldn't be more excited for the bass season too! Fish should be moving into shallower water with these warming temps and we are entering pre-spawn! Quite possibly our favorite time for bass. We are starting up this Saturday for bass around the Portland area as river and ambient temps are looking like we should be lining up well.

Our shop personally loves casting big articulated streamers on intermediate sink lines with variations on stripping for some nasty eats! Can't wait! For anyone not 100% confident, here is a quick reference for you we put together, otherwise get out there and have some fun!

Here are a few from last year at this time:
