I've never fished 5X or 6X. I seem to hook plenty of fish....and probably land a lot more.

I mostly fish 4X but I carry a spool of 5X fluorocarbon for when I want to drop a small nymph off of a size 14 dry fly.

There are other patterns of Stimi's. One I use a lot for October caddis to salmon hatch. Just adjust hook size to match the fly:
