Favorite Fly Shops

What, no love for the Steinbaugh era Waters West?

That shop, that guy, that dog. Dave has to be my all time favorite shop owner. Quiet, knowledgeable & competent. And by all accounts a heck of a fisherman.

The hour spent in Waters West was always a highlite of my trips from pugettroplis to the OP

Shop dogs reminds me of Theaux at the Backwater Angler on the Gunpowder in Maryland, and his corgis.

Plus one there. I'll never forget the look on Dave's face when a hundred pound plus tarpon that he was attached to launched itself skyward about 50 feet from my skiff. Brings to mind the old adage about eyes like saucers.

Crowsnest Angler Fly Shop in Alberta was a great shop when I was last there many moons ago.

Rock Creek Mercantile, yes.

The old Sport's Cove in Spokane..I think it was the same name when it was in 2 Swabbies as well? And, I am throwing in the two White Elephants in Spokane because they carried all I needed in the 80's to really get into flyfishing more.

A couple others I’ve had great service from when it comes to mail order are The Bear’s Den in MA and Dakota Anglers.
Fly Fish Food has great service as well.

If you still are in touch with Dave, ask him about floating the Big Hole from Glen to Pennington.

Online:
1. Gorege Fly Shop

3. Fly Fisher's
All great shops with excellent service.

My two favorite shops are Northwest Flyfishing Outfitters and the Deschutes Angler in Maupin. Outfitters is closest in NE Portland. Never miss a chance to visit the shop in Maupin

I gotta give a shout out to Peninsula Outfitters in Poulsbo. I can't wait to see Bill's new shop

When in Florida, I have liked the Ole Florida Fly Shop in Boca Raton. As I begin to spend more time on the west coast of Florida, I am looking forward to checking out Mangrove Outfitters in Naples.

I liked the Eureka Fly Shop (CA) as I knew the owner and he taught me fly casting and fly tying when I was in grad school.
In Washington I have liked Puget Sound Fly Co. (Anil is a great guy and remembers who I am), the Gig Harbor Fly Shop, and a little closer to home, The Fly Fisher (Lacey). I do miss the Morning Hatch. I am amazed that whenever I run into Gary, he remembers who I am.

Some other shops that I have done business with and have no complaints with are:
The Fly Shop - Redding, CA
Blue Ribbon Flies - West Yellowstone, MT
Madison River Fly Co. - Ennis, MT
Feather-Craft - St. Louis, MO
Fish West - Park City, UT
Crosscurrents Fly Shop - Helena, MT

Curious - what is it about the Gorge Fly Shop that makes ervice alnd aws

Curious - what is it about the Gorge Fly Shop that makes you rank it #1? They don't even stock tying materials.

Good service.
Alwsys had equipment I needed in stock, and if not, they went out of their way to get it for me.
I don't tie much, but when I need supplies, I can get it from Patricks.
