Just out of curiosity how did The Drift come to be on the list? Not that I think it's a bad shop just a small hole in the wall shop in a small out of the way town.

Rob, you just answered your own question 😉

Did you guys hear Simms just bought River's Edge in Bozeman?

I've been on a Fins and Feathers kick for a couple of years. They do the best job of keeping stock, especially tying material.

Between those two shops it really seems to depend on who you deal with. I got ignored once at rivers edge and once at fins and feathers I was helped by a really condescending little punk who didn't know what am irresistable Adam's was or that it was a great March brown pattern.. I left there and gave rivers edge another try and had a great conversation with the guy there.

To add to the list.

Blue Ribbon flies in West Yellowstone
Red's. Even though I hate what they do to the Klick.

A +1 for East Rosebud, well stocked and excellent customer service.
Billings is my home town so I usually stop in when I'm there but recently did an internet order which arrived promptly along with this note.

Sorry, still fighting the sideways image thing.:(

I haven't been there in years and years but Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone used to have some very friendly and helpful staff. Creekside and The Valley Flyfisher in Salem were owned by personal friends so it is hard not to recommend them ... if they still owned the shops. The Valley Flyfisher closed his doors and Creekside sold out to a new owner... I'm not even sure if it is still open.

Shops seem to change owners and some of the ones I used to like a lot were bought out by folks that are not nearly as nice ... so it isn't so easy to point out a good shop when that may no longer be the case.

It is really just another little hole in the wall, but I love the Camp Sherman Store and Fly Shop. I think it is my frame of mind when I am on the Metolius...

Also loved that little shop in Pt. Townsend that closed years ago...the owner could be a little distant, but they were always nice and helpful to me.
I have a thing for smaller shops I guess...

I've been to Paris three times, to think I missed out on La Maison de la Mouche?! ;-) My daughter lived in Nagoya for six years. I always meant to get to https://watchett.net/ and never did. My bad.

I really miss the Blue Dun in Wenatchee/East Wenatchee. Bill Marts was very patient with me as a ROOKIE steelhead fly fisher; he shared techniques and talked about the Wenatchee including where to fish. One morning I was visiting, Bill was tying some quick and dirty "Trick or Treat" patterns. I bought the materials to tie that fly with and scored my first steelhead on a fly with that creation.

RIP Eureka Fly Shop, Eureka, CA.

The fly shop in Redding has an amazing selection of tying materials, but I think some of the guides are pricks and I've had unpleasant interactions with one in particular (I was in the right, he was acting like he owned the river and being butt-knocker). Ususally I save my $$$ for the Trinity Fly Shop in Lewiston, CA

The Camp Sherman Store & Fly Shop has gone through a number of different owners. Way back when the population of Bend was only 20K and the Met wasn't so popular, I remember a middle age women worked at the store and was always smoking a pipe... a tobacco pipe. That has always stuck with me.

I also remember the staff workers at the fly shop section would always recommend a Stove Pipe pattern for catching the trout planters.
I bought a couple of black ones but they didn't work worth a hoot for me.

Decades later I tied my own version of the Stove Pipe in olive and it worked amazingly well on The Met. Guess I was originally using the wrong color.

The sad part is I think La Maison est fermé (closed) now. I bough an engraved reel from there a few years back.

What, you didn’t offer free swimming lessons? No time for clowns like that. As some have eluded above, fascinating when shop workers are aholes. Vote with my wallet.

Miss the Morning Hatch.
Anil and Puget Sound Fly Co has done a great job in their place.
I really like Ryan and his crew at The Avid Angler.
Wish Waters West and Spawn Fly Fish were closer as they have great selections. Just prefer a hands on approach when buying materials if possible, but not always.
