ER Conservation combined with netting

After sport fishing in rivers, of course....

Oh don't worry they won't be the only agency assigning blame and avoiding accountability using that new universal reason for all things bad happening.

I know that there are many legislators that care about recreational salmon fishing, and I know even more who care about salmon stocks because of the whales. I also know that I offered advice and the three of you got your panties in a wad rather than just hearing it and moving on. So if this is how you want to talk to people who are on your side - I agree that there's nothing you can do about it. Clearly you think that you're so brilliant that you have absolutely tried everything and angry emails are the only way out of your situation. No wonder nothing gets done over there.
My panties are kind of in a wad right now.

If you had any idea how much friends and I have dedicated to conservation and fisheries issues on the coast beyond "angry emails" (and you had some sense of humility), you never would have spoken up, but you did, and when we tried to tell you how off you are in your assumptions, you persisted to tell us we're just loudmouth jerks. Great stuff....

I'm done now if you are. I'd prefer it that way.

You still haven't done a PowerPoint to the chamber of commerce. If you did it would force WDFW 's hand and salmon would be saved.

Funny thing... I actually did serve on the Grays Harbor Marine Resource Committee, which was tasked with raising public awareness of the local resources, and presentations were part of that. Lots of nice, well-meaning people, but suffice it to say, as the "sport fishing representative," I was pretty quiet most of the time. Lots of talk about tribal and commercial fisheries, as well as oyster farms and the like, but nothing much came up about sport fishing. When I brought stuff up, people would nod their heads like they were listening, but I don't think they understood or cared all that much about the plight of fish and sport fishers. Like I said, nice folks....

I kinda wish I hadn't checked my notifications. Nowhere in this thread did I tell you that you're a bunch of loudmouth jerks. I offered a suggestion, and you decided to react in a negative manner. Anyone can go back and read how this conversation went. The OP was advocating to send emails to WDFW staff, and I suggested other methods. Those other methods would definitely fail if you all decide to continue to treat others the same way you treated me, so I'm really not surprised at the lack of success in anything you tried. Un-wad your panties if you ever want to get anything done. If not, you'll end up being even more unpleasant than you have been here because nobody will ever want to work with you. Getting things done takes a lot of time, effort, and an ability to continue working on things without lashing out at your allies.

To be clear, Sir, I don't address WDFW staff angrily. I state facts, and I suppose my passion comes through at times, but I communicate professionally when things are "official." I bet I'm even pretty close to as good as YOU.

My entire argument is that you know less than zero about what work I have put in, and you might want to think twice before assuming you know better than me (or anyone else) and telling me I need to be "nicer."

Learn to respect the knowledge of those who understand things you don't. There's some advice for your future endeavors into public policy. When you get into a REAL political fight, you'll need it.

Back on topic, the Chehalis tribs are opening Saturday. Matt must have worked his magic or something....

Is this information posted by wdfw or is it your best guess?

I was looking for the chehalis tribs as to the comment posted by Shad.

Honest question: Would the tribes have netted more days if the NT had netted less days? Is this a case where one way or another the system creates a scenario where all "paper fish" are likely to be harvested?

On the Chehalis system it appears that the QIN just implement their season management plan totally independent of what happens in NT land. The co-managers do meet and talk some, but since there is little they agree on they kinda' go their separate ways. The difference is that WDFW considers the QIN plans when scheduling NT fishing since the state does have some escapement and wild stock concerns that the QIN doesn't.

That sounds right to me. The QIN sets their fisheries, and they tend to stick to them. The NT gillnetters were the sole beneficiaries of the recent tributary closure....

Would it be possible for the Quin to change their netting schedule in the event that WDFW cancelled the NT netting?

I honestly do not know much about region 6, except sport fishermen tend to be unhappy with their representation when it comes to opportunity.
