Our EV was bought in the balmy Willamette Valley and a battery heater was the sole dealer extra built into the price. Basic stuff. Being balmy here, our winter range has been excellent.

That's someone who thinks ahead. Similar to adding a block and transmission heater to your truck when preppimg for Alaska. Don't know if you were being specious about your local climate or not.

The numbers in the article pretty much reflect what other EV and Hybrid owners I've talked to seem to get during colder temps. And thats pretty much an open secret within the commumity.

Dude, you could literally say the same about the pro EV crowd. It has to be 100% carbon free, or nothing. Which is why I proposed a hybrid system of effiecient fossil fuel/renewable bio diesel use with electric motors and batteries.
What is wrong with "it has to be 100% carbon free"? "Nothing" is not anyone's alternative. I truly hope the day will come when we are 100% carbon free. In the mean time EVs are here to stay. We don't have much choice for a cleaner alternative unless we manufacture a solar car that can take the kids to soccer practice and allow the family to take a fishing trip.

Could we switch the conversation to "how to produce carbon free infrastructure" that can juice up thirsty batteries in minutes?

I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread. I think good points have been made, and really only see this devolving yet again in to a place we don't want to go.

Really appreciate the points from all sides of the issue, and hope everyone learned something regardless of your predisposition on the matter.
