Gear Review Echo 8wt OHS Review: Old, but Still Reliable

I enjoy reviews of fishing gear, especially the ones that present facts and feelings/opinions that are clearly stated.

It is one of the ways we learn more.

A review that has a strong, pointed view and not allowing the reader to make their own decision for their circumstance, is less than desirable.

There are a lot of fisher people with lots of experience on this site. By them sharing information will only help others.

I respect your take on the OHS and I agree with the versatility.

What lines are you using with it?

I liked it a lot more for overhead casting than roll casting, even when I added a haul. Unfortunately, I don't have enough back casting room on the local creeks.
For overhead I use and like both Cortland Compact and Rio Pike/Musky. Totally different tapers, the Rio roll casts surprisingly well.
Most of my use is with two hands. Screw the long handle in the butt and leave it. Rio Skagit Trout #5 integrated line at 375 grains with 12’ 96 grain tips is my go to for Oregon coast winter steelhead fishing. Often casting with trees above and behind, and needing to fire under the trees on the other bank.
