Early Signs of Spring

IMG_0485.jpegYou were there and I was not, so I defer.

Some of those hover flies can be pretty darn good mimics. I think it’s the prominent eyes in the photo of that insect that mainly had me questioning.
I just assumed it was a bee.
Now I’m curious, so here’s another pic’. of the same critter.

After the second coldest winter of the last 30 years here in the Poconos, we hit a high of 76 today a record?) - the pond has come alive, and pretty noisy with chirping"

Cheers for spring!!!!!

78 here in the Cascades next week, snowpack in lowest 5 ever recorded. Had enough precip this winter, however, to have made for an average snowpack if it had been colder.
Looking forward to hatches on the local river next week, should be really good.

According to the US Department of Agriculture site this morning Snow water equivalent stands at 65-75% of median for much of the N. Cascades as of this morning. Big areas of Montana now at 90-100%. Unfortunately, Oregon still really having a tough year though.

What a difference a few days can make. This is great news for many of us. Fingers crossed we are able to climb up some more!!

Hoping it is not what is a false spring, but then that is an idiom used in retrospect when the temp drops in late March and into early April. Don’t think so. As a lifelong weather watcher and gardener it just feels the earth has shifted on its axis. I was picking tomatoes in early January. Hell that is a first by a 2 month shift in 65 years of playing in the dirt- In the 50’s my buddy L metal cars and Tonka trucks had road building to do.
