Early Signs of Spring

Birds are getting frisky, lots of geese & ducks paired up. I watched 3 Bald Eagles doing some rather focused flying this morning. No aerial battles though.

Been texting with the parents back in in New England dealing with blizzard warnings. Our wet, dreary, winters suck but nothing compared to a good, old fashioned, hard New England winter. The first one they’ve had in awhile.

Meanwhile, back in the PNW on Bainbridge Island we’re definitely rounding the corner towards spring…

Hiking out through the shrub steppe this morning I heard, then saw a couple sandhill cranes.
Several large flocks of sandhill cranes flying over our house in the last week. The neighborhood elk were out in Packwood when we stayed there last week. Snow on the mountain was good with several days of powder snow and one day of groomers and sun. This week I am planning to go fishing one day and skiing the next. Early spring has a nice variety of things to do. IMG_5520.jpeg

These last few days of sun on the west side have been awesome. But I'm trying not to get too excited as I know the rain is about to return.

Still, that vit D is encouraging.

Gave her a good brushing getting out the loose winter coat, and I can see her reddish brown summer colors showing up. She does enjoy the return of the sun and warmth.
