Drone crashes

I found a wrecked drone just in the woods next to the river today. I found one in the water on a creek last year. Anyone else finding this relatively new type of refuse?
 
I haven't come across one. But you gotta figure that happens sometimes, right? You can fly those far enough from their controls that it seems like it would be tough to find if it crashes.

I've found 2 chukar hunting...one was a very large expensive model. My son posted it all over social media but no one came forward to say they lost it but several wanted it for parts. Eventually we gave to someone who wanted parts.

Both were on high ridges that can get very high winds.

Based on my finding two, and I don’t get out that much, I think it happens kind of a lot.
 
I never thought about it but I wonder if the batteries can cause fires? Eventually the sealing will fail exposing the Li or Na. Maybe they slowly oxidize over time and avoid burning?

I have picked up dozens of mylar balloons...you can see them miles away.

I know of 2 drones in Davy Jones locker.

I agree with you. Not a fan of them. Have been buzzed a few times while beach fishing and never did see who was operating them.
Kind of similar to the loudmouth guy talking all morning on an otherwise quiet beach….

Where was your neighbor home when this occurred? Just wondering.
 
We had an issue with the neighbor and his drone over the house a few years ago. It's pretty quiet around here, so super annoying to hear it on weekend mornings while hovering over our back yard.

Somehow, it crashed tragically and unexpectedly one Sunday morning...seems it got too low and flew into a tree or something like that, could never find it afterwards.
 
For me, drones are like anything that might annoy folks (jetskis, dirtbikes, loud music, etc). There's a time and a place and a frequency for them. And if you can't figure that out, you probably shouldn't do any of those things.
 
I was tempted to buy one, but I talked myself out of it.

A little north. Didn’t crash into his home. It crashed by his property. I think the guy whose property it crashed on is south of me. Not positive. Happened a few years ago.

Unfortunately common sense in the people who partake in such activities isn't very common.
 
IIRC , drones are supposed to be registered with the FAA . Might could find a serial number and look it up on the registry. If you really, actually cared.

The owners of the homestead behind me have had several drop onto their property over the past years. They just call the deputy sherrif who works our area and he swings by to pick them when he's not busy.
 
I've dabbled in drones. Most are the photography oriented ones ($1000). The other major category are the racing drones. "First Person View" or FPV. Anyone will have a blast with one of these. You will be wearing goggles that give you a crystal clear picture in 3D from the cockpit of your drone. That drone can fly at amazing speeds with extreme maneuverability ...... Think of parking your car near a stream. Fly that puppy a mile upstream and a mile downstream, from one foot above the water to high above the trees. Anyone that can no longer hike that stretch of water, can now explore it, first hand, in real time, in a way that is simply magical.

Google search "DJI FPV drone". $1000. A complete package, drone, headset, controller . The price of a decent rod. Forget about all the photography and computer stuff,, just imagine about the sheer joy of simply "flying" over the stream. These things are super easy to use and control if you want them to be... or super fast and exciting if that's what you want. Any Old Man would have his life uplifted with this varmint. 100% guaranteed.

I got me a wrecked dji mini 2, which looks to retail new for $449. I’m not sure what a wrecked one is worth, if anything. Looks like something gnawed on it a bit.
